On-Snow Demo at Eldora Saturday, Dec 8 9AM-2PM |
|
 |
Demo all of our brands on snow and find your perfect fit!
There is no better way to feel the differences between ski brands and decide what boots work best for you than to get out on snow! Join us and all of our suppliers for a free on-snow demo this Saturday (Dec 8) from 9AM-2PM at Eldora.
Fischer, Salomon, Rossignol, Atomic, Alpina, and Swix will be there with gear to try out. BNS owner Nathan Schultz will be present to help explain the differences you feel on snow and guide you to finding the perfect fit for you.
We are set to ski on a loop where they have been making snow at the base of the Sidewinder Alpine lift where there is several feet of snow and no rocks. It is currently dumping up there and the nordic center will be open Saturday. As conditions continue to improve, we may be able to demo on the nordic trails. Call us for details. |

Team BNS Coaching Group Winter Session |
|
|
Get technique advice and great workouts twice per week
Our winter training group began last week with two great sessions on the man-made snow up at Eldora. Team BNS meets Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 6:45-8:15 through March and is a great way to get technique feedback and some great training every week throughout the winter.
Each session has a technique portion that includes drills and video analysis and a fitness portion that focuses on different aspects of ski training. It's a fun way to learn to ski and get fit with other Front-Range skiers.
New for 07-08 is a women's group to reduce testosterone levels out on the trails.
Register by Dec 15 and receive a free BNS Water Bottle! |

We just finished grinding a batch of 175 pairs of skis and so we still don't have our schedule of topics completed. We'll get it soon. Check our web site or stay tuned on the email list, but they will be happening every Thursday night. |

Race Schedule Chaos Explained, Sort Of |
| |
 |
This weekend's races will go ahead, although not as planned.
The lack of snow forced Gold Run to bail out of hosting the Colorado Cup/NRL races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
The Summit Nordic Club took up the slack and moved both races to Frisco Nordic Center. The distances remain the same, but Saturday will be changed to Skating, Sunday Classical. The races will still be USSA National Ranking List races, but apparently not count as Colorado Cup.
Confused? Details at rmnordic.org.
Crested Butte's races are going ahead as originally planned. |

Training Tips |
|
 |
Making the Transition to Snow
The transition to snow is always tough. It is hard to fight off the excitement of finally getting on skis and overdoing it. The key as you transition to snow is moderation. Remember that muscles, tendons, ligaments and skin need time to adapt to new motion patterns and equipment. Some tips to train intelligently as you transition.
- Have a goal for each on-snow session. Pick several specific technique issues to focus on and work on them as you ski. Try to work on one until you have mastered it or are getting frustrated, and then move on to the next piece. Near the end of your training session, try to integrate all of the pieces you worked on at the same time.
- Keep up the dryland training. Continue (hopefully) to do strength work in the gym, the core work, the rollerboard, etc. Skiing is great, but you will be stronger, faster and have more endurance if you keep up strength. Core strength allows you to hold your body position as you push with your extremities.
- Ski without poles. Skiing without poles builds technique and specific strength. Put in 15-45 minutes in during a distance session. When you transition back to using poles, focus on maintaining the power in your legs that you had without poles.
- Double pole. Upper body strength is a weakness for almost everyone. Even if you're just a "skate skier", get out there and push yourself around with your arms only. Build up from a short 5-10 minutes to as long as you can manage.
