On July 13, Microsoft ended all support for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). Thus, current users of that version of Microsoft's venerable operating system are now running on an unsupported platform, increasing the likelihood of a security breach.  According to InformationWeek,

On July 12, Microsoft released the public beta of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to select users. SP1 does not add any end-user functionality and is not intended for home use.
