| Message from the Executive Director |
We have been very busy at Phoenix Day over the Summer. We held our first and second nutrition night events, our kids went to see High School Musical, and we redid our front office. The fall is shaping up to be even more packed with activities and events. We have been selected by Summit Builders Charities to be one of four recipients of their A Race for Hunger event to benefit our health and nutrition program. We will be hosting our Annual Health Fair, holding our annual Halloween Festival, and presenting our annual Thanksgiving event, Stone Soup. In addition, Health Links has increased its outreach efforts and we are staffing more and more locations as well as health events to increase enrollment in AHCCCS and KidsCare.
We invite each one of you to participate in any or all of these events. We have ample opportunities for volunteering and we are always in need of items from our wish list. And, most especially, financial contributions are always greatly appreciated.
We could not do our work in the community without the support of our staff, parents, volunteers, community partners and corporate donors. There is always room for anyone who wishes to join us in serving the working poor.
Please call or email me if you would like to take a tour of the school and see first hand what keeps us so busy at Phoenix Day.
Regards,
Wimberly Doran

| Family Nutrition Night |

Internationally renowned nutritionist, Debbie Richardson of Optimal Nutrition and volunteers from The Junior League of Phoenix rolled up their sleeves on Wednesday, September 26th to serve 104 families with healthy lunch box menu selections.

| Linking Today's Families with a Healthy Tomorrow |
HealthLinks updated vision is supporting the comprehensive well being of a child through promoting the availability of health resources to the entire family! Family dynamics continue to change with multi-generational/ethnicity influence, economic factors and community education opportunities expanding a child's direct support group to people of all ages and stages of healthiness.
Phoenix Day has long embraced the concept of extended family as demonstrated through our Junior League sponsored Nutrition Nights sharing tips and information about a healthy diet. We are excited to launch our Childhood Obesity program sponsored by Social Venture Partners and an expanded Phoenix HealthLinks Fair sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield. This years HealthLinks Fair is inclusive of child "whole health" resources from prenatal to grandparent programs to arts related organizations while maintaining our quality historic focus to screenings and health plan options.
HealthLinks core competency is providing access to AHCCCS/KidsCare coverage through the Health-e-Arizona program where all family members begin learning about the value of healthy kids for a healthy tomorrow. Stop by to see just what our tomorrow looks like! October 23, 2007 between 3:30-6PM at Central Park. |

Welcome New Center Director |
Elisa Mongeluzzi has been working with children and families for more than twenty years. That three-decade journey has taken her from the Sunday school classroom to private child care and youth development programming. As the director of an inclusive child care center, Elisa became an advocate for children with disabilities. Having coordinating the Family Services unit for a social-service agency in Vermont, Elisa returned to Arizona, dedicating her herself to be a voice for the early care and education community. Elisa spent four and a half years with the Arizona Self-Study Project at the Association for Supportive Child Care as an Early Childhood Specialist and the Training and Outreach Specialist before joining the management team at Phoenix Day as the Center Director.
Born in Elmhurst, Queens, New York, Elisa grew up in Tucson, AZ and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Studies from University of Arizona. In December of this year, Elisa will receive a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education from NorthernArizonaUniversity. |
