BEST TIME TO COME: Three months prior to your birthday and up to three months after your birthday. The Solar Return can be scheduled back to back with your annual astrology session if you want, but it may be more fun to do it right around the time of your birthday.

GENERAL RULE: You must have an active energy calendar (meaning you must have seen me within the last year). Those on a budget, who want to try the Solar Return, but do not have an active energy calendar, can have a Solar Return reading, but I will not have timing information and may not be able to answer your usual questions.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Solar Return reading does not replace the annual session where you receive your energy calendar for the year. The Solar Return offers life direction and further insight, but offers no timing of events like the energy calendar does. Bring your energy calendar with you to review and build upon the year. I do not keep copies of your energy calendar.

What is a Solar Return chart?
A solar return chart is created for the time that the transiting sun (the sun in the sky) returns to the position of the natal sun (the position of the sun when you were born). Each year, the transiting sun returns to conjunct your natal sun at a specific degree. For the Solar Return chart, which I will interpret,

How is a Solar Return reading different from the Energy Calendar?
When you come for a standard astrology reading with me, you receive an energy calendar that shows all the planetary cycles influencing your life, informing you of both past cycles and future cycles (more specifically, transits, progressions and solar arcs). These cycles are found based on the position of the planets when you were born and how the planets are affecting you, and tell us the themes that are present in your life, timing, emotional influences, opportunities, as well as elements of change and redirection. Some of these cycles are quite tangible and definable, while others are helpful to know about, as they give clarity to your path.
A solar return is different from an energy calendar, because it is a more specific birth chart of a new year in your life. Every year, you are faced with new issues as different areas of your life become dominant. The solar return is a better predictor of psychological changes and internal growth, while the energy calendar is a better predictor of external events.
All events in your life are vehicles for growth. By understanding the themes of your solar return, you have the advantage of knowing what to expect, and how to work positively with those themes. If you ignore the lessons of your solar return, you may find your life more difficult than necessary. Situations may arise that could have been avoided had you faced them earlier. Knowing about your solar Return themes can make your life more understandable and directed, because you have another level of information with which to work. The Solar Return reading complements your energy calendar.
Are there any other differences between the Solar Return and Energy Calendar?
The Solar Return chart can bring great awareness to the areas that are important to focus on. The Solar Return (as well as life experiences in general) is part of a cumulative process. The more attentive and productive you are this year, the greater your options next year. The less you accomplish now, the more limited you will feel as time goes by. Unlike transits, which can seem singular and disconnected, solar returns are closely aligned and can represent building blocks, charting your progress year after year. Each year is important and each task has a history and a future. The Solar Return has a rhythmic pattern that will be evident after a few years of regularly doing your solar returns and noting your progress.
If you normally procrastinate and avoid making decisions, tasks and issues associated with the old solar return can easily last past your birthday and run into the new solar return year. Unresolved issues carried over from year to year can become stumbling blocks to furthering your advancement and development. Some individuals who consistently avoid facing the real issues in their lives accumulate major problems that seem difficult to handle.
What is the active period of the Solar Return chart?
The period of the Solar Return runs birthday to birthday. The symbolism of the new Solar Return can be felt as much as three months before the new birthday if you are intuitive, and some old issues can carry over as much as three months or more into the new birthday year. But for the most part, the Solar Return chart reading is good from birthday to birthday.
What do I get?
You will have time with me as I synthesize the information on your Solar Return chart and put my interpretation into words and direction that correlate to your life. You will receive handouts with keys to the symbolism of the planets, houses, and signs, so you can explore them on your own, and a custom report (about 10-15 pages) that includes a brief summary of key points for each planetary position as well as other important information to keep in mind for the year.
