GREETINGS from the S. California Coast!
I hope this newsletter finds you well. I am in my home state of California, visiting with family and friends in Capistrano Beach and throughout Orange County. I haven't been on an extended vacation in a year so this is long overdue. My family and I made our annual visit to Disneyland and California Adventure, we've spent several days at San Clemente and Newport Beach, I got caught up on some reading, have enjoyed staying connected to the Behind The Moon community via my social networks, and I've relaxed and rested everywhere in between.
Yet after 13 days away, I'm ready to return and am excited to see everyone! I hope this edition of our E-News finds you well and enjoying the summer sun. I look forward to seeing you soon on the networking circuit. Until then...

Answering "So What Do You Do For A Living?"

One of the most popular questions asked of the professional at a networking event is "So, what do you do for a living?" or "What is your business?" Many can't wait for their opportunity to share their story, yet answering this question is often worrisome to professionals. How should you answer and where do you start?
My studies have taught me that there are a few key factors to bear in mind before diving into your answer.
Be confident.
Just be yourself.
Be clear and concise.
Do not sell.
Highlight the benefits.
Help them understand.
Bob Burg (co-author of Go-Givers Sell More) reminds us of the sales expression: You can't say the wrong thing to the right person, and you can't say the right thing to the wrong person.
So don't get too caught up in your answer or a specific outcome you want to achieve. Focus on the benefits, how you help others, be yourself, and keep it short and sweet. If the person you're speaking with isn't interested in your product/service, perhaps they know someone who is.
