Greetings!
Recently, I spent a lovely morning at the beach in Santa Barbara, just lazing on a blanket listening to the surf and soaking up that awesome energy. It was a great way to renew my spirit after a week of intense work on some new projects!
Is there something you've been wanting to do to recharge your batteries?
Today's newsletter focuses on what's really important during the holidays, why it's a good idea to find ways to relax and pace yourself during the holiday season.
And while you are here, please check below for an announcement about my new Give Wings to Your Dreams telecoaching program that starts in January, and also take a look at my special holiday book offer!

| Tis the Season to be Jolly |

How to stay relaxed and enjoy the holidays!
The holidays are upon us and our busy lives are starting to ratchet up to a new level of intensity. For some, the "season to be jolly" gives way to the "season to be stressed out"! As you enter this busy holiday season, please remember to put yourself on the to do list and take time out to relax! A little preventative maintenance will support you in having a more enjoyable holiday season! When you take time out to relax a bit and do things that renew your spirit it makes everything else flow so much more easily! What can you do today, or this weekend, to give yourself an energizing lift?
Perhaps you could:
- Spend time with a creative hobby
- Take a leisurely walk in a park
- Do a little yoga or pilates
- Read something inspirational
- Kick back in a hammock
I realize that what I'm recommending is much easier said than done. The holidays bring on a boatload of extra obligations, activities, to dos, and other concerns, and all of it gets piled on top of an already full, if not crazy, schedule. And yet, it's vitally important to pace ourselves! After the hectic lead up to the holidays we often arrive at what we hope will be a joyful, loving time with family and friends, only to find we are too tired and stressed out to be truly present and enjoy it. How much of that stress do we bring on ourselves by taking on too much, striving for perfection and wanting to be everything to everybody? We want to create the perfect dinner, a perfect party, have a spotless house, buy the perfect presents, and so much more. These are all lovely intentions, but that drive for perfection and trying to "do it all" comes with consequences. I invite you to step back for a moment and ask yourself what you really want to experience on Thanksgiving, or Christmas Day, or any of the other special holidays or traditions you may celebrate at this time of year. Most of us, given a moment to reflect, would say, "I want to feel love, joy, connection, community, closeness, comfort, renewal, and to be grounded in my spiritual/religious faith." What we really want during the holidays is to take time to enjoy family, express gratitude, show love and appreciation, receive love and appreciation, spend quality time together, and escape the daily grind for a little while. Most of all, we want to experience the joy in the moment. That's pretty hard to achieve when you show up depleted, stressed out and cranky! It helps so much to take a few breaks from the holiday treadmill to create some balance. A few things you can do to support yourself:
- Visualize how you would like your holidays to unfold and imagine how you'd like to feel!
- Maintain your focus on your desired experience
- Take some time to evaluate and perhaps reset your expectations of yourself.
- Become more deliberate in taking on fewer obligations and choosing activities that support your wellbeing.
- Give yourself permission to say no sometimes and to ask for help from others
- Ask yourself what you need in order to show up relaxed and cheerful for the holidays and take steps to make it happen!
It really is the season to be jolly! Slow down a bit, give yourself some space to relax and be mindful in choosing how much you are willing to take on. Perhaps your greatest contribution to your family and friends during this holiday season will be less about presents and more about your presence; less about doing things and more about experiencing the joy of being together. To all my readers in America, Happy Thanksgiving! And to everyone, I wish you a happy holiday season. |
