Dr. Frank Thomas, Senior pastor of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, Memphis, TN, will speak at United Theological Seminary's Doctor of Ministry Intensive, held from August 16-20, 2010. On Wednesday, September 8, United will celebrate the beginning of our 140th Academic year with Opening Convocation, a Celebration of Donors and Volunteers and the Dedication of the Elmer and Betty O'Brien Library

  • 9:30 a.m. - Donor and Volunteer Celebration; Dedication of the O'Brien Library with Reflections by Rev. Elmer O'Brien

Watch for United GIVES Back! in August!
Watch for the upcoming 2010-11 Annual Fund mailing, United GIVES Back!, which features six Gifts for United alumni/ae and three easy ways to participate in United's Annual Fund: 
  • Mail back the pledge card that will arrive with the mailing in August.
  • Donate online at Support United.
  • Respond when a member of the Development Team calls you during our Phonathon between October 12-16 and 19-23, 2010. 
 We're also looking for volunteers!  If you would be willing to make calls to your former classmates, either at United or from your own home, please contact Brice Thomas, Associate Director of Alumni/ae Services at [email protected] or 937-529-2201.  
UMC Certification Courses Resume in August
UMC logoUnited's first UMC Certification courses were offered in June, with the next series scheduled for August. President Wendy Deichmann Edwards Teaches in Vietnam
VietnamFrom July 12-17, United President Wendy Deichmann Edwards taught an intensive UM Doctrine course with 30 pastors, district superintendents, evangelists and teachers of The United Methodist Church in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.  The class was one of a sequence of courses the Vietnamese students hope to take from United in Vietnam in order to complete the requirements for ordination in the UMC.

New Program Trains Online Instructors
mouseUnited's Online Teaching and Learning (OTLC) courses are being taught this summer by experts from around the country.  Many United faculty members and adjuncts are taking the courses and learning best practices for online education. 
 
The classes were fully subscribed when they began in June. Watch the United website for a list of those who will be certified at the end of August and for the dates of the next series of courses. For information about the program, visit Online Teaching and Learning Certificate.
