United Board Approves Audit Report


On Friday and Saturday, February 5-6, United's Board of Trustees gathered at the seminary--in spite of the stormy weather-- prayerfully to conduct important business on behalf of the school.  Action items included the election of Bishop George Bashore '58 and Dr. Joan Parrott '97 as new trustees and the acceptance of the completed 2009 Audit Report and related documents.
 
The Executive Committee of the Board and the President will compose an appeal for reconsideration of the recent action of the University Senate.  For more information regarding that action, please visit United's website at United Responds.

mouseUnited's new 3-year online M.Div. offers the same quality of education as our traditional classes with the added flexibility of attending class from any location with internet access!  To earn this degree students must complete a minimum of 30 percent of the degree in a hybrid or face-to-face format.

Join Us For Heck Lectures and Alumni/ae Banquet in April 

Craig EvansThe 2010 Heck Lectures features Dr. Craig Evans, Payzant Distinguished Professor of New Testament at Acadia Divinity College of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, on Wednesday, April 14.   The theme of the lectures is "Jesus Outside the Bible."  For more information about Dr. Evans, please visit

NEW UMC Certification Program at United!

UMC logoBeginning in June 2010, United will offer two-hour master's credit courses leading to the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry's Professional Certification. Courses are three-day hybrid (both face-to-face and online) intensives in January, June and August each year. Certification will be offered in Christian Education, Children's Ministry, Music, Older Adult, Spiritual Formation and Youth Ministries.

Dr. Otis Moss to Speak at Vision to Victory
Otis Moss headshotDr. Otis Moss Jr '90 (see story above), will be this year's featured speaker at Vision to Victory on Wednesday, April 21, at the 11:15 a.m. chapel service at United.  Dr. Moss, theologian, pastor, and civic leader, is one of America's most influential religious leaders and is a highly sought-after public speaker.  Hr served on the Dr. Martin Luther King's staff, and presently serves on President Barack Obama's 25-member White House Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Vision to Victory is a celebration of the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., observed by United around the time of Dr. King's martyrdom.

United's Student Council Brings You        "Gospel-Pod"
PodcastUnited's Student Council is offering a weekly devotional series during Lent called  "Gospel-Pod." The series is a joint production with United's Digital Media Center (aka the Studio) and is available now for download to listen to on your computer, iPod/iPhone, or .mp3 player!
Gospel-Pod is a weekly 3-5 minute devotional written and read by members of the United community. This podcast can be found by searching iTunes and through our hosting site, Podbean . You can also access it from the bottom right of our website's home page.

Bishop Ough is May Commencement Preacher

Bishop OughBishop Bruce R. Ough, Episcopal leader of the West Ohio Conferece, will preach at Spring Commencement, to be held on Saturday, May 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church, 4961 Salem Ave., Dayton. His semon topic is "Go Pick a Fight."
