One of the simplest ways for a company to do its part to help the environment is to establish and maintain green mailing lists.  By ensuring members' contact information is up-to-date, organizations can reduce their undeliverable-as-addressed rate by a significant percentage.

At Print Buyers Online.com, we recently launched a new version of our website.  After the site went live, we noticed a significant increase in site traffic - and the amount of time each visitor stayed on our pages.  It is times like these when companies should take advantage of the increased foot traffic - and encourage their members to update their account information.
 
This can be done through requests, reminders and incentives.  The most important thing is to make it as easy as possible for a person to update their information, such as:
  • Listing membership account information in a prime location on your website
  • If a current members, have information automatically filled in so the person does not have to retype data
  • Make it as easy as possible for people to opt-in and opt-out
  • Allow people to select their preferred method of contact
  • Secure detailed demographic information to enable segmented targeting

Continual merging and purging of mailing lists will not only save an organization dollars in postage, it will save trees, too.  And that is win/win in our book.
