Last week, I attended The Institute on Religion and Public Policy's Interparliamentary Conference on Human Rights and Religious Freedom with PBO's associate editor Sarah Grieboski.  Led by Sarah's husband Joe, the IPC is composed of members of national and supranational parliaments from around the world and seeks to find common solutions to the globe's most pressing problems.
 
It was fascinating to learn the perspectives of diplomats and legislators from 20 countries including Kenya, Sudan, Palestine and Greece.  For me, one of the most beneficial sessions at the conference was one on environmental sustainability.  The panel was moderated by Reverend Monsignor Anthony Frontiero, Official of the Roman Curia, Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. 

 

I had the opportunity to speak at length with panelist Lawrence Anthony of the Earth Organization, who received the US Army 3rd Infantry Division Regimental Medal for bravery for the rescue of the Baghdad Zoo during the Coalition invasion of Iraq in 2003.  It is my goal to work with his group for our own sustainability efforts in print and I hope to visit Thula Thula, his wildlife sanctuary in Zululand, South Africa next year.
