After Fridays excitement I kept thinking about one thing; a covenant keeping God.
I thought about how he had prompted me to pray that morning. How he had warned us ahead of time what was about to happen. I thought about how, even though he knew this man with dangerous intent would be on the road that morning, he made a way of escape for us. He keeps his covenant.
I thought about his covenant of peace. While it was a disturbing incident, we both kept calm and at peace at least in our inner man. Our bodies reacted different but our inner man was steady...that is part of our covenant as well...peace.
From Genesis to Revelation we can visibly see the effects of the covenant of God. From Abraham, to Moses, to the children of Israel, all the way to the end of the book, we see a picture of God's covenant. As Deuteronomy 7 says He keeps his covenant to a thousand generations. How awesome is that.
In the days when the children of Israel were in bondage the Bible says 'he remembered his covenant.' When he remembered his covenant he removed them from bondage, but he did more than that. He brought them out with spoil and with the destruction of their enemy, once and for all.
Psalm 89:34 says God will not break his covenant nor will he alter the things that has gone forth out of his mouth. Has God spoken something to you? Has he made you a promise? If so, he will not alter it. It may not have come to pass in the time you would like, but he will not alter it, wait for it, it will come.
Isaiah 54:10 says Gods covenant of peace will not be removed. Peace has a deep meaning; it means nothing missing and nothing broken. Isn't that wonderful? We have a covenant from a God who cannot lie saying that we have the promise of nothing broken or missing in our life.
Psalm25:14 says that God will show us his covenant. I believe that means that he will show us the effects of the covenant in our life. And I believe it is time for us to begin to see those effects if we are not seeing them already, don't you! I know I saw the effects of the covenant on Friday. I saw his protection, I experienced his peace and I saw a way of escape for us...that is covenant.
As I was looking up scriptures on covenant I came across one that caught my attention; it is found in Zechariah 9:8-11.
I will camp around My house because of the army, because of him who passes by and him who returns. No more shall an oppressor pass through them, for now I have seen with My eyes. "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem; The battle bow shall be cut off. He shall speak peace to the nations; His dominion shall be 'from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth.' "As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
Do you realize that you are his house? You are the temple of God and he is surrounding you and he has cut off your enemy. He says that your oppressor can no longer oppress you. He says his dominion is from sea to sea. Why? Because of the blood of the covenant. Because of the blood of the covenant you have been set free. Your children have been set free. Your spouse has been set free. Your money has been set free. Your peace and health have come. All because of the blood of the covenant.
I don't know about you but I believe we serve a covenant keeping God and I believe we should be mindful of that covenant as 1 Chronicles tells us. We should keep it in mind and keep it in our thoughts, reminding ourselves that he is our covenant keeping God. Reminding ourselves that by the blood of Christ, we are free from ALL oppressors, we are free from anything that has tried to keep us bound...we are free.
You should take some time this week and study covenant and all it encompasses, his covenant leaves nothing out. You are covered top to bottom, front to back and everything in between. He is a covenant keeping God and that truth will never change.
