As I shared in a recent motivation, I knew things were going to be very busy starting this week, many things were changing and I knew I would have to draw on the grace of God for this season.
Thursday evening I was sitting at home, resting for the first time all week. I was simply sitting and breathing in the quiet and peace. I began to think about how busy this week has been and how physically and mentally exhausted I was. Silently I said 'Lord thank you for this moment of peace and rest.' I heard God speak to my spirit and say one thing; 'Keep your eye on the prize.'
You see, I am standing in faith for certain things in this season and in this month and I knew all God was saying in that one short sentence. That is something that has always amazed me, God can say one short sentence to you and it is like he speaks an entire page. When He said 'keep your eye on the prize' I knew he was telling me that the busyness and change was not going to stop however, in the midst of it I needed to be careful to keep my eyes on the things of God and all he is doing in this season.
In Philippians 3 Paul said 'I press toward the goal of the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.' The prize is defined as the award to the victor. Paul is saying 'I press toward my reward.' You see, the bible says that God always gives us the victory through Christ, therefore we know it is our reward because we have the victory...every time.
Whatever is going on around us, it is vital to keep our eyes on the prize, the thing that God has set before us. Today as God spoke to me, it helped me to get my eyes back on what was set before me, even though I knew he was also saying that the busyness would not stop.
It caused me to remember what Elijah said to Elisha when Elisha asked for a double portion.
In 2 Kings 2, we see what Elijah said and then what happened.
You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so." Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, "My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!" So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, "Where is the Lord God of Elijah?" And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.
Let's look at what all was happening; they were walking and talking, several of them. Suddenly a chariot of fire appeared...can you imagine that. And there were horses of fire all around...get a mental picture of this. They were separated and there was a whirlwind. Yet with all of this going on, Elisha would only get what he had asked if he kept his eyes on the departure of Elijah. He had to keep his eye on the prize amidst fire, separation and whirlwinds...as Elijah had said if he didn't he would not receive a double portion.
Today I wonder, are there things going on in your life that seem busy or almost chaotic. Do things seem so busy that you are beyond weary? If so, I want to encourage you to do as the Lord spoke to me; keep your eye on the prize. Set your face like flint and refuse to take your eye off the prize. Instead be like Elisha; purpose in your heart that you will keep your eyes fixed during this season. Let nothing, not fire, not busyness, not whirlwinds, nor anything else keep you from seeing what God has you to see in this season. Keep pressing. Keep watching. Why? Because of the end of this scripture...it says and Elisha crossed over. It is time for you to cross over into the promise that God has for you. Don't allow fear, thoughts, or anything else to keep you from crossing over. It is time...keep your eyes on the prize and cross over.
