As always, God talks to me through the strangest things. Something happened the other day that I have not been able to get off my mind. Since that instance God has been dealing with me personally about some things and I want to share them with you today.
You know, that's usually how it is with God and I. He shows me things with other people but then he deals with me personally and the personal issues of my heart.
Anyway...what I saw was this; I had opened the door to someone's vehicle to put something in it and I noticed that they had tons of clutter in it. They had clutter from the times they had eaten and left the bags or cups. They had stuff piled up in the floorboard, it was clutter or some would call garbage. Frankly I didn't think a lot about it but then God kept talking to me about it, how the clutter in our life is a mirror image of what is going on in our heart.
I know I have said this in the past, however, I believe it remains true, you can look around you and see a mirror image of what is going on in your spiritual life and in your heart. At least that is how it works with me. If I begin to see things piled up in my office or in my car or in my house, I realize there are probably things going on in my heart that I don't want to deal with.
If that happens, God will deal with me to get things in order, as I begin to declutter whatever area it is God always begins to declutter the things that need to be dealt with in my heart and in my spirit.
I will admit, I like clean more than most but it is because God has always dealt with me about these things, showing me that whatever is in my life is a reflection of what is in my heart. That being said let me ask you a few questions. What does your vehicle look like? Is it cluttered? Do you have garbage piled in from days before? What does your home look like? Is it organized and tidy or is it cluttered with many things set aside and left undone? How about your garage? Is it piled up with garbage that should have been removed daily? Is it a place to park your vehicle or a place that you have to keep closed because of the clutter and garbage? Clutter signifies chaos.
This message may not be for you, or it may. This past weekend God dealt strongly with me about getting the clutter out of my life and removing what needs to be removed. I can pretend all is well with my heart and spirit, I can quote scriptures and write motivations, but the truth is, if there is clutter all around me, I am not where I want to think I am and if there is clutter all around you...you may not be where you want to think you are either. Isn't this a fun message?
People often want new cars and new homes but the truth is that God blesses us with new things when we take care of what we already have. When we bring him honor by taking care of what He has given us. If our car is filthy and full of garbage, he probably won't give us a new one. If our home is dirty and cluttered, he probably won't give us a new one until we learn to take care of what we have. The Bible says if we are faithful in little, he will make us ruler over much.
In the bible when God found someone faithful with the little they had, that is when he gave them more but if they weren't found faithful in the little, even what they have can be taken away.
Does your home glorify God? Does your car glorify God? Do you take care of what God has given you? If God came to go for a ride in your car, would you be happy to let him in or would you be embarrassed? If God knocked on your door to come visit, could you happily welcome him in or would you have to ask him to hold on a minute while you cleaned up?
Today, I ask you to look around your life, your car, your garage, your home and take inventory. If your life and everything in it is a reflection of your heart and your spiritual life, what do you see in the mirror? Are you asking God for more, if so, are you taking good care of what you have?
It's time to remove the clutter. It's time to get rid of the things that need to be thrown away. It's time to allow the reflection of your life to match the person you want to be. As you do, you will find that God will talk to you through the declutter and show you things that he is removing in your heart. He will begin to declutter areas that only he can touch and that, my friend, is a wonderful thing. Nothing feels better than clean...especially in your heart.
