 |
|

The results are in line with those from a similar survey in which managers were asked about the factors most tied to employee morale.Other aspects of the job linked to satisfaction included:
- Ability to accomplish goals (20%)
- Camaraderie with coworkers (13%)
- A good working relationship with the boss (11%)

| Survey Points to the Importance of Punctuality in the New Year |
 |
|
A recent survey found that sixteen percent of workers reported they arrive late to work once a week or more, up from 15 percent last year. Twenty-seven percent of workers arrive late to work at least once a month, up from 26 percent last year. Traffic, sleep schedules and weather conditions are the top three causes for late arrivals to the office, according to workers. Cat hiccups, a disgruntled roommate and a governor's phone call are among this year's most unusual excuses employees gave for being tardy.

This week's question:
- What are the positives and negatives of using social media to promote my company?
- HR Manager, Marketing Firm
Answer:
For most organizations social media has become a key part of their marketing efforts. In the world of HR it is rapidly becoming the best place to recruit new talent. Setting up a presence on Facebook and Linked In is a must today in order to capture the best talent for many generations. Those under the age of 30 have grown up using this medium to communicate and to manage their lives. On the down side you need to be sure the effort is being led and managed by someone who is savvy to the medium and who understands how to effectively use social media to communicate your message. HR is typically not accustomed to marketing itself in this fashion. A less than stellar effort could result in reducing your chances for success.

INTERVIEW QUESTION OF THE
WEEK
Each Newsletter we will publish an interview
question which hiring managers can utilize to better
qualify candidates for hire, along with our analysis of
the answers you may receive and their meaning.
This Week's Question
- How do you determine or evaluate success?
GAUGING THEIR RESPONSE ---
This question is more about the hopefully thoughtful and strategic response you secure. We're looking for candidates who demonstrate a tie in to the big picture as much as they may reference the task /goal their organization by themselves is trying to achieve. We want people who even lead with the idea that the success of the firm is how I evaluate our success, with a focus on ensuring that my department's actions drive, support and /or facilitate that success. When we hear about mostly individual successes we need to embrace that too, but understand that our best employees see the big picture too.
HR Best Practices Tips
--Cross Training
At the end of 2008 the businesses that survived the downturn in the economy with greatest ease were those who had cross-trained their people. Specifically they had the competitive edge to adapt a newly reduced organizational size because realigning who did what going forward was far easier since their people were familiar with the new roles they were now being given. It highlights the importance for any organization to cross-train their people, leaving them more readily prepared for turnover, economic shifts and even organizational growth. The more members of your staff that know how to handle other tasks the greater the organizational strength.
