This week's question:
-What is a salary increase matrix and how can I use this for calculating annual increases?
--- HR Manager, Retail
Answer:
Most firms will establish a budget for what increases can be afforded to their employees each year and/or for each level within the organization. That guideline or matrix sets standards for salaries by level and position and is established by HR and/or the executive team.

INTERVIEW QUESTION OF THE
WEEK
Each Newsletter we will publish an interview
question which hiring managers can utilize to better
qualify candidates for hire, along with our analysis of
the answers you may receive and their meaning.
This Week's Question
- What types of efforts are you making to serve your customers / clients and to exceed customer expectations?
GAUGING THEIR RESPONSE ---
We all have customers, be it internal or external. You could even argue that your boss is your customer. So hearing from a candidate about how they please those they serve is key. You are looking for a commitment to service and support and satisfaction. Any discussion about how difficult or unreasonable the customers can be should be seen as a red flag.
HR Best Practices Tips
--Promotions from within
When an organization grows or finds itself needing to replace more senior staff / management the best place to look first is within your own ranks. To find these folks you really need to have a plan all along designed to grow your staff and train them on the job and via formal classes to become capable of that upward move. Promoting from within will help your retention, as well as help you attract top talent as that kind of action gets noticed inside and out.
