This week's question:
"When I make a new job offer, what is the best way
to determine the new employee's base pay?"
--- Controller - Retail Co.
Answer:
In this market you need to look at three sources. The
first is the salaries you are presently paying your staff
in the same role or similar, as well as those you
perceive to be at a similar level. The second is the job
boards, which will show you what the market is
bearing for similar roles. Lastly you can check the
websites that specialize in publishing salary survey
data.

INTERVIEW QUESTION OF THE
WEEK
Each Newsletter we will publish an interview
question which hiring managers can utilize to better
qualify candidates for hire, along with our analysis of
the answers you may receive and their meaning.
This Week's Question
-- Tell me about a time when you received constructive
criticism about a project at work. Who provided this
feedback and how did you take it?
GAUGING THEIR RESPONSE ---
The success of your team in many cases can come
down to how well they take feedback and even
criticism. Their ability to embrace the feedback and
use it to facilitate positive change is critical. Asking
about a candidate's experience in situations like
these will tell you something about their flexibility,
willingness to change, desire to grow, etc.
HR Best Practices Tips
--How to create a more cohesive
workplace
Most of us are working with fewer people than before
due to cutbacks. Further the workload each person
handles is generally greater than before. That means
we're spending more time in the office with one
another. Looking at company events like trips to
shows, sporting events and even bowling can help
draw your teams closer together. Running a game
night with Bingo, puzzles and even a trip to a local
arcade call also get great results. Moving into areas
where you can get groups you assemble to team up
and compete overall will generate new cohesiveness
in any workplace.
