Tech Corner: Which Megaphone Is the Right One?
During the development of our new Blue Ocean Megaphone, many of us at NK realized that marketing it was going to be interesting: many other megaphone manufacturers boast of clarity and impressive outputs, but there is no way to be sure how they compare when just looking at them on paper.
For example, range is one of the most popular features to compare among all megaphones. The difficulty with this is that range can be calculated in a number of different ways. Most likely, other manufacturers are calculating range by determining the power loss over distance and using the average lower limit of hearing, and finding the range where this point is limit is reached. The contention I have with this is that there is no allowance made for fidelity or clarity - if the Megaphone sounds completely muffled 20 feet beyond the person, a calculated range of 500 yards means nothing.
Fidelity and clarity are other issues that are not easily quantified. The engineers and managers here at NK have worked diligently to be sure our megaphone doesn't have a "tinny" sound to it. As a result, we can tell who's speaking through the megaphone without having to look directly at them. I have noticed during our testing that the same cannot be said of several other megaphones.
As we get closer to the release of the Blue Ocean Megaphone, I get more excited every day. I (and everyone else at NK) firmly believe this megaphone is truly incredible and will completely blow the competition out of the water!
