Are You Read to Work on Your Business?
As a solo practitioner, you might spend a lot of time working "in" your business. This means that your business depends on you. You are a one woman (or man) show. Your business will only get so far if you are spending all of your time personally generating revenue and putting out fires at the same time. In the lifecycle of your Private Practice, you may want to evaluate what the next step of your business involves as you transition to working "on" your business: -Revisit and revamp your business plan Perhaps you might consider a partner, a business loan or investors to expand your business? If so, you will want to re-work your business plan--specifically the financial section. What is your vision for an expanded business? What does this look and feel like? Get it on paper, including the potential income, expenses and investments needed.
-Look at all different ways to price and collect for your services, including negotiating/renegotiating with insurance companies
What are some new and innovative services that you can add? How will you price these services and how will you make sure that you collect in a timely manner? In some cases, you may have insurance contracts? Are these serving you? Do you need to renegotiate your contracts or make the shift to private pay? -Hire staff with confidence to transition to a "business owner"
Once you have staff in place, you will find a whole new sense of freedom. Staff may include someone at the front desk to field calls and book appointments, collect fees and transform the way you currently do business. Staff may also include other dietitians to see clients or expand into new areas in order to generate revenue--this way you increase your earning potential.
-Hone advanced marketing skills as an advanced practitioner
With a new look to your business, you may need to reconsider the way you are marketing. You may need to consider someone to help you market. Today's marketing includes social media marketing along with "warm calling." You may not have the immediate budget to hire someone to do your marketing full on, but perhaps they may consider working on a commission if they are currently involved in marketing other types of services.
