CONTINUITY OF PRACTICE IS THE SECRET OF
SUCCESS
My yoga teacher tells a story about the woman who
dug for water. She went from spot to spot, digging on
the surface. When she did not find any water, she
quickly moved on to the next hole and so on. Had she
stayed in one place and dug deeper, she would have
eventually hit the water. This story parallels the
journey of many dietitians who strive to open their own
business. Many dietitians dip their toes into the world
of private practice, but never immerse themselves
completely.
Owning and operating your own business is hard
work. The growth of a business is a process-a
journey. Some
dietitians want to plug into a "plan"-like their clients
who demand "meal plans." They need the "step by
step plan" or they feel uncomfortable. It is actually
when you are uncomfortable, the
transformation takes place. In transformational yoga,
poses are held long and linked with breath. You are
encouraged to find your physical edge in order to get
to the core of your emotional edge. By peeling back
the layers, you can tap into your inner wisdom. When
poses-- like situations in life-- are the most
challenging, this is when the transformation begins.
The more you get to know yourself, through these
challenging situations, you eventually find yourself in
the driver's seat. You will no longer look for
someone to hand you a "key to success." You work
through every business challenge, as
uncomfortable and difficult as it may be, and then feel
so much more empowered.
"Jump Start" believers are committed to forging
through the ups and
downs. "Jump Starters" are wise and intuitive. They
form their own networking groups. They
have the wisdom to know when they need to "fine
tune" their business. They also know when to seek
professional business consultation to help them
evaluate each phase of their business, whether they
are new or seasoned practitioners. The most
experienced practitioners are the first to obtain
professional support for their business.
So the next time you want to fall back on a quick fix to
get answers for your business, just
notice. Change may be
uncomfortable, but examine what more is frustrating-
to stay where you are or take the first chisel into that
iceberg. And, always remember, continuity of
practice
is the secret of success.
