Do you often find yourself saying, "Been there, Done
that!"? Could this possibly be your own defense
mechanism for your own resistance to follow the road
that leads to success in your business? Or do
opportunities come up over and over again to allow
you to experience the opportunity with an entirely
different energy? Perhaps you weren't ready to hear
how the information was presented the first time. The
second time, you may be in a different place on your
professional path.
My teacher says that in yoga, we often do many poses
over and over again. It may be the same old pose
over and over until this pose reveals what it needs to
reveal. Can we approach what may feel like
the "same old thing" with a new mindset and open-
ness to learn? I often find that the most seasoned
dietitians with the healthiest private practices
understand this concept clearly.
When I ask my Private Practice workshop participants
to notice consumer trends, explore their vision, write
goals, and develop their business plan, a handful are
taken aback by the need to write all of this down on
paper. Others might think, "Oh I've done this before!"
Do you re-evaluate goals and plans on a regular
basis? Do you ask your clients to write their vision,
goals and a business plan for their own health? Are
their vision, goals and plans static or are they
dynamic? Do you approach your clients, according to
consumer health trends in order to give your clients
what they want and the most up to date information?
For some, it is scary to leave their current work
situation and take the risk. Could the fear of success
play in here as well? Can you nudge yourself out of
your comfort zone as you might nudge a client out of
his or her comfort zone in making nutritional changes?
One of the first guidelines that I learned in my yoga
teacher training was, "Continuity of practice is the
secret to success." Another mentor of mine often said
directly, "Just follow the plan!" And, in Universal
Teachings by Christina, my favorite message is, "With
all you are getting, get understanding."
I believe each of us is presented with many life
opportunities. To meet these challenges, we must be
cognitive of our needs, aspirations, motives, as well
as our defenses. Armed with this information, we are
equipped to make career choices in our highest
good. Ultimately then, we can learn and grow in the
best possible way.
