Feng Shui Fridays
JUNE 22, 2012

Greetings!

It's a fabulous Friday in Colorado.  Hope you are planning a fun Friday and a weekend that balances out the past week with both relaxation and activity.

I've been thinking about feng shui principles--balance, harmony, positive chi flow--and remembered the interesting balancing act of nature and industry in China when I visited there several years ago.

Feng Shui Tip of the Week

The Three Gorges Dam Project along the Yangtze River in China was a hugely controversial venture as it flooded millions of acres of land along its path in order to provide a deeper river allowing for larger ships, increased energy production, and a complicated political agenda.  A stop on our tour revealed an enormous site filled with gigantic structures to hold back the river and create electricity.  While my husband was interested in this engineering feat, I headed toward a park not far away that whispered 'feng shui'.

Amidst the heat, activity and man-made metal structures, a serene area purposefully graced the adjacent property.  Winding paths, gardens, shade trees, and all five elements (rocks, red leafed bushes, water pond, metal statuary) created a balanced area that gently slowed the chi.  I was amazed to see this feng shui principle in action as I watched children and families placing flower offerings on stone altars.

Until next week, here's how you can balance your corporate/tech life and create good feng shui.

  • Place healing plants (Peace palm, Syngonium, Philodendron, Boston fern, rubber plant) near your electronics (computer, fax, stairmaster, copy machine) to mitigate the negative electromagnetic fields (EMFs)
  • Leave your desk area at least once an hour or face away from your desk and breath deeply, close your eyes and see your favorite setting in Nature, shake off 'work' energy
  • Move your alarm clock and other electronics away from your head while you are sleeping
  • Add nature art--water, woods, mountains, meadows
  • Spend time outdoors every day (garden, walk along the water, sitting on the porch) and immerse yourself in the harmony and balance of Nature

Until next week,

Wishing you Simplified Interteriors
