Flores de Mayo Santacruzan ~ May 22
A Santacruzan (Festival of the Holy Cross) is a religious-historical beauty dorapagent held in many cities and villages throughout the Philippines during the month of May. The procession commemorates the finding of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem by Saint Helena, mother of Constantine the Great. Afternoon festivities culminate in an elaborate procession to the Church where an evening mass is celebrated. Beautiful young ladies dressed in elaborate costumes highlight the procession with one chosen to represent the magestic Reina Elena (Queen Helena) who walks with her consort, Prinsipe Constantino, under a huge canopy of May flowers. Immediately behind her is a float carrying the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, followed by a festive live band. Come to St. John the Baptist Church to celebrate this colorful tradition as we will pay tribute to our Mother Mary by celebrating Santacruzan - ala Filipino style!

A Mother's Day Prayer
dora
I said a Mother's Day prayer
to thank the Lord above
for blessing me
with a lifetime of
your tenderhearted love.

I thanked God for the caring
you've shown me
throughout the years,
for the closeness
we've enjoyed
in time of laughter
and of tears.

And so, I thank you
from the heart
for all you've done for me
and I bless the Lord for
giving me the best mother there could be!
