What's the Scoop?
Here are three things you can do today - Pray for World Peace, Remember Archbishop Oscar Romero or discuss the Catholic church's sexual abuse controversies. Tomorrow Step Up Silicon Valley - Campaign to Cut Poverty will host members of Obama's Administration to discuss strategies to cut poverty in the USA. Then this weekend your preteen starts complaining that there's nothing to do take them to Holy Family's dance party for Junior High kids. And don't forget to clean out those closets and donate your clothes by Friday!

Legacy of Archbishop Romero  ~ April 28
Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez (August 15, 1917 - March 24, 1980)
dora
Archbishop Oscar Romero gave his last homily on March 24, 1980 moments before a sharpshooter assasinated him. Romero had stood alone against the oppresion of the Salvadorean people. With one exception, all the Salvadoran bishops turned their backs on him. It was then Romero understood the church is more than the hierarchy, Rome, theologians or clerics, he knew that the church is the people. Over 75,00 Salvadorans would be killed, one million would flee the country, another million left homeless and in a country of only 5.5 million one Archbishop would die for his people. Days before his death, Romero said, "You can tell the people that if they succeed in killing me, that I forgive and bless those who do it. Hopefully, they will realize they are wasting their time. A bishop will die, but the church of God, which is the people, will never perish." On the 30th anniversary of Bishop Romero's death, Msgr. Ricardo Urioste, who was the Vicar General when Romero was killed on March 24, 1980 will recount his life and legacy.
