Archbishop Romero Commemoration ~ March 21

The commemoration will focus on environmental justice in Central America in keeping with Archbishop Romero's legacy.

We are fortunate to have a Honduran National Human Rights Award winner Fr. Andres Tamayo as the speaker.  Fr, Andres, will speak about the organizing of farmers and community leaders to defend their lands against uncontrolled commercial logging. In 2005, Fr. Andres received the Goldman Environmental Award for his success in Honduras

He will also speak about the community efforts in El Salvador to maintain control of their water in the face of strong gold mining interests. This community resistance to the high water use and pollution due to mining has been met with death threats, kidnapping attempts and assassinations.
