What's the Scoop? Catholic Charities president, Rev. Larry Snyder and a slew of other impressive folks, are convening at Santa Clara University to tackle the problems of poverty this Thursday. Come armed with your ideas and solutions to help find a solution to the growing poverty in America. The Bishop is holding a special Mass for those of you who are celebrating your 25th or 50th anniversary. In fact all couples who have been married over 50 years are invited to celebrate! Click on image at right to see a wedding in 1955 prior to Saint Joseph's Cathedral's restoration. Our Lady of Peace is hosting a special play about Karol Józef Wojtyła during his youth and his path to becoming Pope John Paul II. Sr. Rebecca is holding a Young Adult retreat at the Dominican Motherhouse on forgiveness to start the Lenten season. The Pope has asked priests to begin blogging and as usual Fr. Jon Pedigo is always ahead of the curve. This weekend there is a Spiritual Warfare day retreat which should work up your appetite where you can choose one of 4 Crab Feeds to attend.

Spiritual Warfare ~ January 30
|
Spiritual Warfare: What is it? Spiritual
warfare exists in the unseen, supernatural dimension, where God is
all-powerful and Satan is in revolt. As any Christian soon discovers,
although spiritual warfare is unseen, it's absolutely real. The Bible
speaks of spiritual warfare in many places, but most directly in
Ephesians 6:12, where Paul speaks of putting on the full armor of God:
"For
we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Catholic Funnies

A
rabbi and a priest get into a car accident and it's a bad
one. Both cars are totally demolished, but, amazingly, neither
of the clerics is hurt. After they crawl out of their cars,
the rabbi sees the priest's collar and says, "So you're
a priest. I'm a rabbi. Just look at our cars. There's nothing
left, but we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God. God
must have meant that we should meet and be friends and live
together in peace the rest of our days."
The priest replies, "I agree with you completely. This
must be a sign from God." The rabbi continues, "And
look at this. Here's another miracle. My car is completely
demolished but this bottle of fine Napa Valley wine didn't break.
Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our
good fortune."
Then he hands the bottle to the priest. The priest agrees,
takes a few big swigs, and hands the bottle back to the
rabbi. The rabbi takes the bottle, immediately puts the cork back in, and hands it back to the priest. The priest asks, "Aren't you having any?"
The rabbi replies, "No...I think I'll wait for the
police."
