Realizing Peace

"The mind is always scheming.
Looking for ways to make you happy;
ways to make you feel good.

How you can avoid feeling
the things you don't want to feel
and how you can feel more
what you would like to feel.

There is nothing wrong with this,
it is the nature of the mind.

But it is also how stress is created.

Because there is what is here
in this moment
and there is how you would like
'here' to be.

If you really look
this manipulation
is happening most of the time.

Even when you sit to meditate
the mind is scheming.

The last thing the mind wants to do
is to let go of its control
and experience this moment.

But what happens
if you let go of all the scheming
and simply feel what is here.

Not just in meditation
but in daily life.

If you find yourself
in a situation
where you are confronted
with something you do not wish to feel.

Whether there is a feeling
of loneliness, jealousy,
fear, awkwardness,
whatever feeling is there
instead of letting the survival instinct
kick in and control it, mask it,
distract yourself from it,
what if you simply allowed yourself
to feel that feeling.

If you allowed yourself
to be completely vulnerable
to that feeling.

I am not talking about
analyzing it or dramatizing it
but simply to feel the sensation of that feeling.

To just allow it.

If you allow yourself
to feel what you have been
avoiding feeling
suddenly you are immersed
in this moment
in a way you might never
have been before.

You are so immersed
in this moment,
so open to what is here,
that there is nothing to hold on to,
nothing to know.

And although
it may leave you feeling
completely vulnerable to what is here,
it also leaves you completely
in peace.

If you are completely
surrendered to your experience
of this moment
then you are at one with this moment.

You begin to recognize
the underlying experience of
deep fathomless peace
that is here all the time.

And in this peace you can learn
through practice to remain in it;
to remain aligned with it.

All of the things that you
used to avoid
now become opportunities
to move deeper into peace.

It is the practice
of moving beyond the mind,
beyond knowing
into your natural state.

Blessings,

Kip"

Chapter 4

The Now

Putting away the dishes, drawing up a business strategy, planning a trip-what is more important: the doing or the result that you want to achieve through the doing? This moment or some future moment?

Do you treat this moment as if it were an obstacle to be overcome? Do you feel you have a future moment to get to that is more important?

Almost everyone lives like this most of the time. Since the future never arrives, except as the present, it is a dysfunctional way to live. It generates a constant undercurrent of unease, tension, and discontent. It does not honor life, which is Now and never not Now.

No center

When you believe you are a separate self, every state, emotion, thought and event appears to be happening to you. Everything is interpreted as if you are the center of life. Thought is doing the interpreting. Thought is almost entirely self-centered. It dreams in dualism and individuality.

In seeing that the separate self is an illusion, the center falls away. When the center falls away, there is still the sense of the body. There is still the experiencing of states, emotions, thoughts and events. There is still the personality and individual skills and attributes. But it no longer feels as if you are the center of life. When the center goes, the separation, struggle, conflict, and searching go with it. Even if self-centered thoughts still arise, they are seen as empty. There is no longer identification with a totally separate me. There is a seeing that your real identity is something much larger than the individual body and the dream self you mistakenly took yourself to be.

There are many words for this something larger including God, Brahman, the Tao, enlightenment, liberation, reality or Oneness. The word is not the thing it describes. It could just as easily be called This. It is not a concept. When the mind makes it into a mere concept, there is a tendency to create separation between those who get it and those who don't. In that case, the center has returned.

THE EMOTIONAL BODY RADIANCE STATEMENT

(Continuation...)

For the purpose of activating emotional body awareness, the Emotional Body Radiance Statement is to be repeated in the precise 11-step order in which it appears, so it moves our attention from our outer experience of living into our inner experience of Life. This graduating statement is made more powerful because, through reading the text of BEING OUR COMPANION, we are already making a conscious distinction between Life and living. It therefore not only serves our purpose in activating emotional body awareness, but also in any inner work we may pursue.

Time Never Happens

(Continuation...)

[Attention is Consciousness with an object. When the object vanishes, attention simply remains what it always is, Consciousness.]

Consciousness is already the shape of every object towards which it turns. It witnesses and manifests itself simultaneously as that object.

It recognises itself.

Chapter 93

 Man is not the Doer

(Continuation...)

Q: Yet I do not understand why the various Gurus insist on prescribing complicated and difficult sadhanas. Don't they know better?

M: It is not what you do, but what you stop doing that matters. The people who begin their sadhana are so feverish and restless, that they have to be very busy to keep themselves on the track. An absorbing routine is good for them. After some time they quiet down and turn away from effort. In peace and silence the skin of the 'I' dissolves and the inner and the outer become one. The real sadhana is effortless.

From Above...

(Jordan highlights or comments on quotes from the teachings above.)

From Nisargadatta (1/4/12):  "Use every incident of the day to remind you that without you as the witness there would be neither animal nor God."
++++++

From Michael Brown (1/2/12):  "Our overall energy levels are a direct reflection of the condition of our emotional body."

Jordan:  This is interesting and good to know.
