Transcending the Mind
"The mind is a non-stop chatterbox. Always talking talking talking. Commenting, judging, defining, describing, knowing.
It is very important to become aware of the constant noise of the mind.
If you are involved with it, then you cannot be aware of it.
If you are the one that knows, that defines, that describes, that judges, then you cannot be aware of it.
There has to be the willingness to either step out of that identification with thinking so that you can witness it or to direct the thought process through a technique like repeating a mantra, self inquiry, watching the breath, anything that focuses your attention so that it is not a slave to the thinking process. And once there is a build-up of focused attention or ability to witness thinking, then silence begins to make itself known.
Perhaps it makes itself known through Shakti, the subtle energy that is felt as bliss or perhaps it makes itself known through the experience of impersonal being or perhaps in another way. But if you give your attention to it in meditation, if you allow it, at some point, the silence begins to take over.
The silence begins to consume all of the noise. It consumes all of the limited ideas of who you are and what you know, until there is nothing left for you to hold on to. And in that you learn to surrender into the silence so that there is only silence, the nature of which is unconditional peace. January 26th Millions of words There are so many words in this book. There are millions of words in the world that have tried to point to enlightenment. Yet no word captures it because it is not a concept. It is not a thing. The words merely point to it. The words point to the very source of all words. If you can see right now that, no matter what word you use to point to enlightenment, the word is not it, then the mind can naturally relax into what is. That relaxation is showing you that what you are is not a concept and cannot be grasped through concepts. Resting into what is simply means noticing that there is a non-conceptual awareness within you that is already awake and naturally at rest. That awareness notices all objects arising and falling, including all the words that are used to point back to awareness. If what is being pointed to here is really seen, the entire search for enlightenment will be seen as nothing more than a grasping after concepts. If no word can reveal what you are, the entire movement to seek understanding conceptually comes to rest. What is revealed is what you already are. This is what you have always been. It is not a word. It cannot be stated with a million more words. You simply are.

It is recommended to begin Spinning at an 11-breath frequency per session to ascertain the effect of this on our overall energy level before increasing our velocity to a 22 or 33-breath frequency. We are encouraged to spin at an 11-breath frequency for a week or two and observe the consequences before making adjustments. Aside from being unable to sleep or concentrate, another indicator we may be overdoing it is a feeling of being ungrounded or unfocussed. If this happens, we can attend to a 15-minute connected breathing session. This assists us integrate the excess energy. Then we can modulate our overall energy level by decreasing the velocity of our spin-frequency.

In the teachings of Non-Dualism, it is sometimes suggested that attention be given to these 'gaps' between perceptions. These gaps are undoubtedly present, for without them one thought or perception would never come to an end and another would never begin. However, they are not gaps that have duration in time, because there is no time between perceptions. If Consciousness, in the form of mind, is convinced that it is not present, that something is missing, that something needs to be done or found in order to return to itself, then turning the attention towards these 'gaps' between perceptions is very powerful. |

Man is not the Doer

Q: You are reducing sadhana to simple attention. How is it that other teachers teach complete, difficult and time-consuming courses?
M: The Gurus usually teach the sadhanas by which they themselves have reached their goal, whatever their goal may be. This is but natural, for their own sadhana they know intimately. I was taught to give attention to my sense of 'I am' and I found it supremely effective. Therefore, I can speak of it with full confidence. But often people come with their bodies, brain and minds so mishandled, perverted and weak, that the state of formless attention is beyond them. In such cases, some simpler token of earnestness is appropriate. The repetition of a mantra, or gazing at a picture will prepare their body and mind for a deeper and more direct search. After all, it is earnestness that is indispensable, the crucial factor. Sadhana is only a vessel and it must be filled to the brim with earnestness, which is but love in action. For nothing can be done without love.
