Transcending the Mind

"The mind
is a non-stop chatterbox.

Always talking talking talking.
Commenting, judging, defining,
describing, knowing.

It is very important
to become aware of
the constant noise of the mind.

If you are involved with it,
then you cannot be aware of it.

If you are the one that knows,
that defines, that describes, that judges,
then you cannot be aware of it.

There has to be the willingness
to either step out
of that identification with thinking
so that you can witness it

or to direct the thought
process through a technique
like repeating a mantra,
self inquiry,
watching the breath,
anything that focuses your attention
so that it is not
a slave to the thinking process.

And once there is a build-up
of focused attention
or ability to witness thinking,
then silence begins to make itself known.

Perhaps it makes itself known
through Shakti, the subtle energy
that is felt as bliss
or perhaps it makes itself known
through the experience
of impersonal being
or perhaps in another way.

But if you give your attention to it
in meditation,
if you allow it,
at some point,
the silence begins to take over.

The silence begins
to consume all of the noise.
It consumes all of the limited ideas
of who you are and what you know,
until there is nothing left
for you to hold on to.

And in that you learn to surrender
into the silence
so that there is only silence,
the nature of which
is unconditional peace.

Blessings,

Kip"

No point of reference

The moment you have a single point of reference, you have the separate self. You have conflict. Conflict can be a great teacher. It reveals where the mind is stuck on some point of reference.

This is not about trying to reach a place of no thought. Even no thought is a point of reference. Non-duality cannot be known through a dualistic point of reference. As soon as you see the mind fixating on its particular view, even if the view is that you have ìno view,î there is the possibility of seeing that you are coming from a point of reference.

Right and wrong, clear and unclear, good and bad, self and no self, Absolute and relative and all other pairs of opposites arise together and are so mutually interdependent that they are not separate. Right cannot exist without wrong. When you believe your view is right, you have a partial view that exists only in relation to its dualistic opposite.

There is the possibility of seeing that what you ultimately are cannot be found through a single, dualistic point of reference. Call it non-dual awareness or God or whatever word you like. But remember that every word is a point of reference. What you are is already free of all points, yet it contains all points and arises as each and every point. In that seeing, there is no more conflict.

Spinning

(Continuation...)

Spinning may generate waves of heat throughout our body, or a sensation of fluctuating body temperature. This is normal; this is energy in motion in ways we are not yet used to. It may also be the releasing of blockages within our energy centers. We may also feel a distinct awareness of our body extending beyond the confines of our skin. This is a growing awareness of our personal energy field.

Time Never Happens

(Continuation...)

Once Consciousness has, by taking thought, convinced itself that it appears in time and space, and that time and space are not appearances within itself, it then takes this conviction for granted, for real. Consciousness binds itself with this conviction.

All subsequent formulations presume this fundamental reality of time and space, and when Consciousness now creates an image of itself through thinking, it does so in terms of this new belief.

Hence the idea that Consciousness appears as momentary gaps in between the flow of objects in a never-ending substratum of time and space.

Chapter 93

 Man is not the Doer

(Continuation...)

Q: If I turn my attention from what happens, what am I to live by?

M: Again it is like asking: 'What shall I do, if I stop dreaming?' Stop and see. You need not be anxious: 'What next?' There is always the next. Life does not begin nor, end: immovable -- it moves, momentary -- it lasts. Light cannot be exhausted even if innumerable pictures are projected by it. So does life fill every shape to the brim and return to its source, when the shape breaks down.

From Above...

(Jordan highlights or comments on quotes from the teachings above.)

From Nisargadatta (1/4/12):  "Use every incident of the day to remind you that without you as the witness there would be neither animal nor God."
++++++

From Michael Brown (1/2/12):  "Our overall energy levels are a direct reflection of the condition of our emotional body."

Jordan:  This is interesting and good to know.
