Transcending the Mind

"The mind
is a non-stop chatterbox.

Always talking talking talking.
Commenting, judging, defining,
describing, knowing.

It is very important
to become aware of
the constant noise of the mind.

If you are involved with it,
then you cannot be aware of it.

If you are the one that knows,
that defines, that describes, that judges,
then you cannot be aware of it.

There has to be the willingness
to either step out
of that identification with thinking
so that you can witness it

or to direct the thought
process through a technique
like repeating a mantra,
self inquiry,
watching the breath,
anything that focuses your attention
so that it is not
a slave to the thinking process.

And once there is a build-up
of focused attention
or ability to witness thinking,
then silence begins to make itself known.

Perhaps it makes itself known
through Shakti, the subtle energy
that is felt as bliss
or perhaps it makes itself known
through the experience
of impersonal being
or perhaps in another way.

But if you give your attention to it
in meditation,
if you allow it,
at some point,
the silence begins to take over.

The silence begins
to consume all of the noise.
It consumes all of the limited ideas
of who you are and what you know,
until there is nothing left
for you to hold on to.

And in that you learn to surrender
into the silence
so that there is only silence,
the nature of which
is unconditional peace.

Blessings,

Kip"

Chapter 3

The Egoic Self

If you set egoic goals for the purpose of freeing yourself, enhancing yourself or your sense of importance, even if you achieve them, they will not satisfy you.

Set goals, but know that the arriving is not all that important. When anything arises out of presence, it means this moment is not a means to an end: the doing is fulfilling in itself every moment. You are no longer reducing the Now to a means to an end, which is the egoic consciousness.

No self, authentic self, or true Self?

In various non-dual teachings and other traditions and religions, there are different words for what is realized in enlightenment. For example, it's been called, no self. It's also been called authentic self, or true Self. So which is it? Is there a self or not? Each of these words is pointing to the same realization. Don't get too caught up in the words.   The words are not that which they describe. The words are labels only.

Regardless of how you describe the realization, what is being pointed to is an actual seeing beyond identification with a time-bound, thought-based story of me. The concepts used to describe that seeing are secondary.

Once there is this seeing, there is still an apparently separate body and mind. There are still different interpretations arising in those apparently separate bodies and minds. Some will call it no self and others will call it true Self or authentic self yet they are pointing to the same realization.

If it is a true realization, the interpretation arises and falls in emptiness. This emptiness is not attached to a particular interpretation. It is not identified with thought. If you find yourself trying to convince others that there is no self, and that the use of terms like authentic self or true Self are wrong, it may be that there is still identification with form. Words are forms.

Spinning

(Continuation...)

Spinning turns a comfortable energetic environment for parasites into an intolerable roller coaster ride they cannot integrate. The consequence is they leave. We are informed about this because if, after attending to our Spinning for a few days, we experience a deep resistance to the practice, or discover we conveniently forget to attend to the procedure, it is likely we are manipulated by the alien presences whose free and cozy accommodation is now threatened by our whirling behavior.

Time Never Happens

(Continuation...)

In fact it is always only knowing itself, even in the presence of objects, only now the clear glass of Presence is no longer coloured by apparent objectivity.

These 'moments' of Self-recognition are devoid of objective content and are therefore timeless. They leave no trace in memory.

These 'moments' in between the appearance of objects, whether thoughts, images, sensations or perceptions, are conceived of as gaps of minute duration that appear within the flow of experience.

However, this formulation is a concession to the mind that can only think in terms of objects. It is a hint that Consciousness gives itself to remind itself of its true nature.

Chapter 93

 Man is not the Doer

(Continuation...)

Q: Since all happens, why should I worry?

M: Exactly. Freedom is freedom from worry. Having realized that you cannot influence the results, pay no attention to your desires and fears. Let them come and go. Don't give them the nourishment of interest and attention.

From Above...

(Jordan highlights or comments on quotes from the teachings above.)

From Nisargadatta (1/4/12):  "Use every incident of the day to remind you that without you as the witness there would be neither animal nor God."
++++++

From Michael Brown (1/2/12):  "Our overall energy levels are a direct reflection of the condition of our emotional body."

Jordan:  This is interesting and good to know.
