Transcending the Mind

"The mind
is a non-stop chatterbox.

Always talking talking talking.
Commenting, judging, defining,
describing, knowing.

It is very important
to become aware of
the constant noise of the mind.

If you are involved with it,
then you cannot be aware of it.

If you are the one that knows,
that defines, that describes, that judges,
then you cannot be aware of it.

There has to be the willingness
to either step out
of that identification with thinking
so that you can witness it

or to direct the thought
process through a technique
like repeating a mantra,
self inquiry,
watching the breath,
anything that focuses your attention
so that it is not
a slave to the thinking process.

And once there is a build-up
of focused attention
or ability to witness thinking,
then silence begins to make itself known.

Perhaps it makes itself known
through Shakti, the subtle energy
that is felt as bliss
or perhaps it makes itself known
through the experience
of impersonal being
or perhaps in another way.

But if you give your attention to it
in meditation,
if you allow it,
at some point,
the silence begins to take over.

The silence begins
to consume all of the noise.
It consumes all of the limited ideas
of who you are and what you know,
until there is nothing left
for you to hold on to.

And in that you learn to surrender
into the silence
so that there is only silence,
the nature of which
is unconditional peace.

Blessings,

Kip"

Chapter 3

The Egoic Self

Built into the very structure of the egoic self is a need to oppose, resist, and exclude to maintain the sense of separateness on which its continued survival depends. So there is "me" against the "other," "us" against "them."

The ego needs to be in conflict with something or someone. That explains why you are looking for peace and joy and love but cannot tolerate them for very long. You say you want happiness but are addicted to your unhappiness.

Your unhappiness ultimately arises not from the circumstances of your life but from the conditioning of your mind.

Chasing concepts

The idea that there is something more that needs to be seen or known in the future before you can be free or enlightened is fuel for the spiritual search. The search is not the answer. It is the problem. The search arises from a misperception that you are not already there. But where is there? What is it? The most the mind can do is come up with a concept to put in place of the word there. It believes that it must reach something called freedom, enlightenment, presence, love, awareness, Oneness, contentment or the end of the search. Each of those is merely a concept.

Like a hamster on a wheel, the mind is chasing its own concepts. The search is perpetuated when concepts are believed completely. This is not about denying concepts, but rather seeing their temporary, illusory nature.

What is being pointed to here is not conceptual. It is the recognition that who you are is inseparable from the space in which these concepts arise. Confirming that you are this space reveals what is being pointed to with words like enlightenment, and presence. The words are merely pointers pointing back to the space. Realize that what you have been seeking is what you already are. No matter what idea you have of yourself in the future, see that it is only an image arising in the space of now.

Spinning

(Continuation...)

Unlike us, they do not contain a physical vehicle with which to anchor themselves into this experience; they are hijacking ours for this purpose. Because this is not their physical vehicle, they do not have the energetic circuitry to ground themselves into this experience under certain conditions; Spinning is one of these conditions. When we commence our Spinning procedure, and then bring our bodies to an immediate standstill, we fling them around and cause them great discomfort and disorientation; there is nothing for them to hold onto and this is perceived by us as excessive nausea. The immense nausea we feel as we initially commence this procedure is a powerful indication of foreign presences in our field. Remember that many of them have been with us since childhood and so we are unable to differentiate their presence and hence behavior from ours. Spinning immediately assists us to accomplish this. This practice is a barometer for gauging their departure; the moment they leave us, the Spinning does not cause nausea anymore.

Time Never Happens

(Continuation...)

[The 'Now' is the substance and container of all experience.]

Time, divested of the illusion of duration, is Consciousness.

Consciousness creates the appearance of time by bestowing its own continuity on objects and then forgetting that it has done so.

However, just as Consciousness chooses to forget itself, it also chooses to remember itself. Consciousness stops pretending to be other than itself. It withdraws its projection from objects.

It gives itself back to itself.

Chapter 93

 Man is not the Doer

(Continuation...)

Q: If I just let things happen, how can I be sure that they will happen my way? Surely I must bend them to my desire.

M: Your desire just happens to you along with its fulfillment, or non-fulfillment. You can change neither. You may believe that you exert yourself, strive and struggle. Again, it all merely happens, including the fruits of the work. Nothing is by you and for you. All is in the picture exposed on the cinema screen, nothing in the light, including what you take yourself to be, the person. You are the light only.

From Above...

(Jordan highlights or comments on quotes from the teachings above.)

From Nisargadatta (1/4/12):  "Use every incident of the day to remind you that without you as the witness there would be neither animal nor God."
++++++

From Michael Brown (1/2/12):  "Our overall energy levels are a direct reflection of the condition of our emotional body."

Jordan:  This is interesting and good to know.
