Acceptance

"If you want to learn acceptance,
then the next time
you are caught out in the rain
without a raincoat or umbrella,
rather than run for shelter,
allow yourself to get wet.

You will be very aware
of the resistance to getting wet,
that instinctual urge
to run for shelter,
the sense of 'me'
that wants to protect itself.

This is what
must be surrendered
in order to stay out in the rain.

When this resistance
is surrendered,
and you allow yourself
to fully feel the experience
of being soaked,
then there is a sense of freedom
from yourself that carries with it
a sense of deep
unfathomable peace.

It has nothing to do
with liking the rain
or not liking the rain.

Rather, it is letting go
of the one that likes
or doesn't like,
the one that separates
itself from the rain in the first place.

And when you do that
you are simply left
with what is.

There is no you
and what is,
there is simply what is.

And the experience
of what is
is peace,
is delight.

It is completely
open and vulnerable
and complete
in itself.

If you apply
this experience
of being in the rain
to any situation,
any emotion,
then there will be
incredible freedom.

It has nothing to do
with the particular experience,

rather it is about
letting go of the one
that separates itself
from experience,
letting go of the one
that tries to control
the experience.

Because it is that separation
that creates all conflict.

Blessings,

Kip"

Intimacy with life

A thought is a mental interpretation using concepts learned in the past. When we use the word "presence," we are not pointing only to a mental interpretation of what is happening now. Your thoughts about what is happening now have little to do with what is actually happening. They are your thoughts, your dream. When we use the word "presence," we are pointing to a non-scripted, non-conceptual awareness that is awake to what is happening right now including awake to the thoughts about what is happening now.

Presence means awake to the timeless space in which interpretations happen. This awake space looks at a plant and sees a mystery. This awake space is naturally intimate with that plant. The word "plant" is a second hand account of the actual plant before your eyes. No word can reveal the true depth of what is here in this mystery we call "life." The awakeness has no name for that plant. Only the thinking mind names it, gives it a story, and makes it into a separate object living in space and time.

Thought is beautiful. But thought is from the past - memorized concepts that separate you from what you are viewing. This awake space is intimate with what is actually here now. To live in presence means to live in intimacy with the actuality of life, including even the mental interpretations once they are seen as not ultimately true.

Chapter 4

Fact:  Consciousness is the Infinite Itself

(Continuation...)

It is the presence of Infinite Intelligence Itself, cognizing what is true of Itself, that makes this chapter "ring true" here, now. This chapter is not a matter of observing the Infinite. You are being It.

You couldn't get "closer" to the Infinite if You wanted to.

You never leave Infinity.

What is it to always identify or start Here, and stay Here, being alive not to what is sensed, not to finite, dimensional things, but only to the Infinity of the Aliveness You are?

Excerpts From "Being Our Companion:  Exploring Self-Facilitation Through The Presence Process"

The Presence Portal

Michael Brown
Michael Brown

From PART V:

8. What other activities can we instill into our life experience to enhance our relationship with our Inner Presence?

(Continuation...)

The Zen approach to life, which is the art of transforming all our experiences into a meditation upon the present moment, is worth exploring. It contains much wisdom about instilling the radiance of Presence into the ordinary events of our life experience. Zen teaches us that when we make the ordinary extraordinary, by being present with all our activities, we transform our entire life experience into an extraordinary one. Then the door is wide open for our Inner Presence to enter our awareness.

The Ease Of Being

(Continuation...)

Once Consciousness has chosen, out of its own inherent Freedom, to identify itself with a fragment, the only freedom available to it is to disidentify itself from that fragment, to know itself again as it always is.

It is for this reason that the statements 'You have no freedom' and 'You have complete freedom' are both true, from different points of view.

Chapter 89

Progress in Spiritual Life

(Contiuation...)

Q:Who are the people in this room? Are they your disciples?

M:Ask them. It is not on the verbal level that one becomes a disciple, but in the silent depths of one's being. You do not become a disciple by choice; it is more a matter of destiny than self-will. It does not matter much who is the teacher -- they all wish you well. It is the disciple that matters -- his honesty and earnestness. The right disciple will always find the right teacher.
