Breaking the Barrier

"One method of meditation
is to simply be vulnerable
to this moment.

To let go of
trying to justify
who you are and what
you know
and really allow
yourself to feel what is here.

This is difficult only
because of the mind.

The mind comes in
and already knows it;
agrees or disagrees with it,
has an opinion about it.

And it is not that you have
to get rid of that,
but rather to give up
taking a position in that,
in believing this is "me."

You have all of these
thoughts flowing.
It is not to stop the thoughts
or change the thoughts,
but rather to see
the thoughts are flowing.

To see thoughts are
arising by themselves.

You can step back
out of being this person
and watch all of these
processes happening
which make up the idea
of "me."

And you will see in this
that there is no set
singular "me"
but rather a whole bunch
of processes happening.

Thinking is happening,
sensations are happening,
breathing is happening.

The ego could really be said
to be that which grabs hold
of all of these processes happening
and claims "this is me."

And then there is something to justify,
there is something to defend.

There is a position made that says
"these thoughts are me,
this knowledge is mine"
and unconsciously there is so much
effort trying to maintain this idea,
this sense of being a person
separate from everything else.

And it is not to take a position
to say "I am not a separate person"
but rather to stop taking a position at all,
to stop justifying any sense of me
and simply feel what is here
without using the intellect
to interpret it, to label it,
or justify it in any way.

To be completely open
to what is really here in this moment
beyond thinking.

And then throughout the day
to become aware of all of the
ways you justify yourself
and to let go of that,
to be vulnerable to what is here
and what is happening
rather than trying to fight it,
trying to control it.

It will hurt in a way,
it will break your heart
to be so vulnerable
to life.

But once you do experience that
you will love that hurt,
you will miss it
if it is gone.

Because that hurt
really isn't a pain,
but rather an opening
into what is here.

By feeling this
you begin to break through
the barrier of this idea of "me"
and realize freedom.

You realize you exist
beyond all ideas of 'me'
as consciousness itself.

Blessings,

Kip"

And, a shift away, a deepening has happened (post 9/11) because the nation  as a whole was confronted with death.  Now, the deepening will happen in a considerable number of people, in others the opposite effect can also happen through death and that is a tightening and strengthening of the egoic me entity, in which case you would go into reactivity and you would want to do to them, you would want to repeat the same unconsciousness that caused that, total human unconsciousness that dominated most of human history.  It's another chapter.  If you read the 20th century history, that fits in very well whether it's different in nature, but basically the same madness - add another chapter to the complete human unconsciousness.

Questions dissolve

Non-duality is a shift in perception.  It could be described as a wider view of life.  In the mind-identified state, awareness is focused narrowly on forms including mainly thought.  The mind tends to see forms, shapes, people and things in the foreground while ignoring the vast spacious, formless background in which the forms appear.

In the shift in perception, the space and silence seem to shift to the foreground and form tends to shift to the background.  Thought is still there.  Emotions and other forms are still there.  But awareness is no longer intensely focused on the forms.

This is a natural relaxation.  It is seen that suffering and searching arose merely because awareness was contracted into or focused into the forms and ignoring the space and silence.

Instead of asking yourself, "How can I make this shift permanent?" simply notice that the question, and every other question, is a form in the foreground on which awareness is focused.  In noticing the space and silence from which that question arose, the question seems to answer itself.  It is not that you find some great conceptual answer to your question though.  Instead, the question just dissolves away into the spacious nothingness that gave birth to it.

Chapter 4

Fact:  Consciousness is the Infinite Itself

(Continuation...)

Contrary to what is usually believed, infinity does not mean a big, vast finity. It means no finity. This is an overlooked but extremely important distinction to make-and crucial to beholding the true nature of Consciousness. Infinity is not an endlessly large (or small) number. It's not endless in size. Because infinity means no finity, no measurement whatsoever, it is the complete absence of size.

Regardless of what you may have been incorrectly taught, there's no getting around it. That's what in-finity, no-finity, honestly means.

The Ease Of Being

(Continuation...)

Consciousness transitions from 'I am something' to 'I am nothing,' and then from 'I am nothing' to 'I am everything,' without ever being or becoming anything other than itself.

However, this second stage is sometimes not emphasised in traditional teachings that tend to focus more on the witnessing aspect of Consciousness, the 'I-am-not-the-body' aspect, the 'I-am-nothing' aspect. This sometimes leads to a body-negative or experience-negative approach.

Chapter 87

Keep the Mind Silent And You Shall Discover

(Continuation...)

Q: Is the 'I am' the Ultimate?

M: Before you can say: 'I am', you must be there to say it. Being need not be self-conscious. You need not know to be, but you must be to know.
