Breaking the Barrier
"One method of meditation is to simply be vulnerable to this moment. To let go of trying to justify who you are and what you know and really allow yourself to feel what is here. This is difficult only because of the mind. The mind comes in and already knows it; agrees or disagrees with it, has an opinion about it. And it is not that you have to get rid of that, but rather to give up taking a position in that, in believing this is "me." You have all of these thoughts flowing. It is not to stop the thoughts or change the thoughts, but rather to see the thoughts are flowing.
To see thoughts are arising by themselves. You can step back out of being this person and watch all of these processes happening which make up the idea of "me." And you will see in this that there is no set singular "me" but rather a whole bunch of processes happening. Thinking is happening, sensations are happening, breathing is happening. The ego could really be said to be that which grabs hold of all of these processes happening and claims "this is me." And then there is something to justify, there is something to defend. There is a position made that says "these thoughts are me, this knowledge is mine" and unconsciously there is so much effort trying to maintain this idea, this sense of being a person separate from everything else. And it is not to take a position to say "I am not a separate person" but rather to stop taking a position at all, to stop justifying any sense of me and simply feel what is here without using the intellect to interpret it, to label it, or justify it in any way. To be completely open to what is really here in this moment beyond thinking. And then throughout the day to become aware of all of the ways you justify yourself and to let go of that, to be vulnerable to what is here and what is happening rather than trying to fight it, trying to control it. It will hurt in a way, it will break your heart to be so vulnerable to life. But once you do experience that you will love that hurt, you will miss it if it is gone. Because that hurt really isn't a pain, but rather an opening into what is here. By feeling this you begin to break through the barrier of this idea of "me" and realize freedom. You realize you exist beyond all ideas of 'me' as consciousness itself.
Blessings,
Kip"

Tape 5 (Continuation...) [And she sat there without running away from it and she said it was the most sacred experience she'd ever had.] And it remained. Something permanently shifted inside her, although the sacredness and depth of that experience only lasted for five minutes, after which the mind came in and began to say, "how dreadful it was" but for those...the actual moment of death and a few minutes after, she was in the space of complete acceptance, completely facing it. And she went through a shift and she knows that her dying son also when through that shift. |

Positions
We come to the spiritual search with a solid, dualistic belief in a separate self. We hear pointers like "no self" and "you are pure awareness" from spiritual teachings. These help the mind relax out of its dualistic position that there is a separate self. From that relaxation, it is seen that you are not a mind-made story. You are not a separate self.
This can be an incredibly liberating realization. Yet, even with a little glimpse into this seeing, the dualistic mind has a tendency to try again to locate an identity, a conceptual dualistic position. It tends to want to rest on the position that there is no self or that there is only awareness or oneness. But the intellect cannot grasp enlightenment. No word is it. Ultimately, This is not any dualistic position. It is more like a great unknown in which love flourishes naturally.
What is awake to all dualistic positions? What is awake to the positions of self v. no self, choice v. no choice, separation v. oneness, awareness v. thought, spiritual v non-spiritual? The question What is awake to all positions is not meant to help you locate yet another position or identity, but rather to simply see that there is a field in which all positions are seen, any and all positions can be expressed and appreciated, yet no position is held onto. That field is "love." Love is not a position.

Chapter 4
Fact: Consciousness is the Infinite Itself
(Continuation...)
Right now, "taste" what it is for Awareness to be so busy, so fully alive to being Its Infinite Presence alone, that there is no Awareness "left over" to give to finite objects, thoughts, emotions or sensations-but just your own pure Conscious Aliveness.
This is being Infinite Awareness, instead of what one is aware of.

The Ease Of Being
(Continuation...)
In order to remedy this exclusivity, some teachings suggest separating the perceiving Consciousness from the appearance of the body/ mind, in order to establish that Consciousness stands alone and prior to all appearances.
This in turn paves the way for a more complete understanding, in which it is seen that experience is at every moment one seamless totality.

Remain as the silent witness only.
Chapter 87
Keep the Mind Silent And You Shall Discover
(Continuation...)
M: [Remain as the silent witness only.]
Q: How can I? The world disturbs me greatly.
M: It is because you think yourself big enough to be affected by the world. It is not so. You are so small that nothing can pin you down. It is your mind that gets caught, not you. Know yourself as you are -- a mere point in consciousness, dimensionless and timeless. You are like the point of the pencil -- by mere contact with you the mind draws its picture of the world. You are single and simple -- the picture is complex and extensive. Don't be misled by the picture -- remain aware of the tiny point -- which is everywhere in the picture.
What is, can cease to be; what is not, can come to be; but what neither is nor is not, but on which being and non-being depend, is unassailable; know yourself to be the cause of desire and fear, itself free from both.
