Breaking the Barrier

"One method of meditation
is to simply be vulnerable
to this moment.

To let go of
trying to justify
who you are and what
you know
and really allow
yourself to feel what is here.

This is difficult only
because of the mind.

The mind comes in
and already knows it;
agrees or disagrees with it,
has an opinion about it.

And it is not that you have
to get rid of that,
but rather to give up
taking a position in that,
in believing this is "me."

You have all of these
thoughts flowing.
It is not to stop the thoughts
or change the thoughts,
but rather to see
the thoughts are flowing.

To see thoughts are
arising by themselves.

You can step back
out of being this person
and watch all of these
processes happening
which make up the idea
of "me."

And you will see in this
that there is no set
singular "me"
but rather a whole bunch
of processes happening.

Thinking is happening,
sensations are happening,
breathing is happening.

The ego could really be said
to be that which grabs hold
of all of these processes happening
and claims "this is me."

And then there is something to justify,
there is something to defend.

There is a position made that says
"these thoughts are me,
this knowledge is mine"
and unconsciously there is so much
effort trying to maintain this idea,
this sense of being a person
separate from everything else.

And it is not to take a position
to say "I am not a separate person"
but rather to stop taking a position at all,
to stop justifying any sense of me
and simply feel what is here
without using the intellect
to interpret it, to label it,
or justify it in any way.

To be completely open
to what is really here in this moment
beyond thinking.

And then throughout the day
to become aware of all of the
ways you justify yourself
and to let go of that,
to be vulnerable to what is here
and what is happening
rather than trying to fight it,
trying to control it.

It will hurt in a way,
it will break your heart
to be so vulnerable
to life.

But once you do experience that
you will love that hurt,
you will miss it
if it is gone.

Because that hurt
really isn't a pain,
but rather an opening
into what is here.

By feeling this
you begin to break through
the barrier of this idea of "me"
and realize freedom.

You realize you exist
beyond all ideas of 'me'
as consciousness itself.

Blessings,

Kip"

[We don't know how many of the people in the last few seconds of their lives realized a deeper truth of who they are.]

Perhaps even the worst things one would watch when one watched TV was people needing to jump off.  What could be more dreadful?  You don't want to commit suicide but your choice is to burn to death or to jump.  And then you jump.  And that was the most dreadful thing on one level - I'm not denying it on one level - It is dreadful to watch but if you have known death you don't know what happened to them in the last few seconds.

Action

Yesterday's reflection discussed the great unknown - a realization in which the one who knows is seen to be an illusion, leaving only This.  The thought-based self that reads that last statement may believe that, in allowing the great unknown to be realized, it will be paralyzed into inaction or an inability to use the mind for practical purposes.  This is a common misunderstanding.

For example, take the act of fixing a computer.  When there is a belief in the thought-based self doing the fixing, frustration can arise very quickly.  This frustration is then held onto - played out in a story of time.  Pretty soon the mind is complaining within a dream of time.  It might say, "My son should have fixed this yesterday" or "I will never get this damn thing fixed!"  Do you see the story of separation and suffering in that dream?

When the thought-based self is seen through and life is lived in the unknown, there is no one doing the fixing.  There is still conceptual knowledge being used to fix the computer.  Action is still taken.  But there is no one demanding life to happen in a certain way.  If frustration arises, it arises to no one.  There is no carrying that frustration over into a story of time about how the computer should have been fixed yesterday or about how it may take days before it's fixed.  There is only life fixing a computer.

Chapter 4

Fact:  Consciousness is the Infinite Itself

(Continuation...)

It's no accident that the most brilliant scientists never have been able to observe or measure Consciousness' form. Why? Because It has no form! Everything science may claim to have measured is not Consciousness Itself. It's not infinite, because the very fact that something has been measured means it's finite, something one appears to be conscious of.

That's the telling distinction. It would be everything one appears to be conscious of that comprises all of what's finite.

Meanwhile, pure Consciousness Itself is Infinite.

Excerpts From "Being Our Companion:  Exploring Self-Facilitation Through The Presence Process"

The Presence Portal

Michael Brown

From PART V: 3.

Why is it necessary to continue our breathing        practice after Session 10?

(Continuation...)

Even though we complete The Presence Process, it may still be challenging for some of us to comprehend what is being accomplished when we attend to our 15 minutes breathing twice a day. Sometimes the best way to integrate what the breathing accomplishes is by not attending to it for about a week or two. Sometimes, despite our intent to keep up with our practice, our Inner Presence facilitates us into entering this experience so we achieve this level of integration. When we cease our practice for a while, we notice that the resonance of our life experience changes; it is heavier, more unconscious, and decidedly less joyful. We also forget to wield our perceptual tools, we forget they even exist, and consequently re-enter reactive behavior. The majority of souls on earth operate in a time-based paradigm; when we do not maintain a frequency enabling us to ride above these unconscious waves, the current of the majority drags us under again. We remain vulnerable to these collective currents until we accumulate a powerful level of present moment awareness. We remain vulnerable until we activate emotional body awareness.

The Ease Of Being

[When an object is present, that object is one with Consciousness. If they separate, the objective aspect vanishes utterly, instantly, whilst Consciousness remains as it always is.]

Language cannot describe this, because even in attempting to describe it there is a reference to two things, the object and Consciousness. Two words are used whereas in fact there are never two things.

An object is the shape that Consciousness assumes, in the same way that a wave is the shape that water assumes.

Chapter 87

Keep the Mind Silent And You Shall Discover

(Continuation...)

Q: On the verbal level it sounds all right. I can visualize myself as the seed of being, a point in consciousness, with my sense 'I am' pulsating, appearing and disappearing alternately. But what am I to do to realize it as a fact, to go beyond into the changeless, wordless Reality?

M: You can do nothing. What time has brought about, time will take away.
