2 Methods of Meditation

"One path of meditation
is to firmly fix
your attention
in this moment.

To not let yourself
get caught up in thinking
but rather to directly
experience what is here
beyond thinking
and to remain in that.

Do not try to stop thinking
but rather keep your attention
fixed on what is here beyond thinking,
allowing the thoughts to go
as as they arise.

You could also simply
dip in and out of that.
To let your focus rest in what is here
beyond thinking
for as long as is comfortable
and then lose yourself
in thinking again.

To dip in and out of it
is very blissful,
but if you want to be
really intense about it
you can keep your attention
in this moment
without allowing yourself
to get caught up in thinking.

This method will be uncomfortable,
like trying to make a puppy be still
when it wants to run all over the place.

But with practice,
if you can remain in that,
then what first feels uncomfortable,
will begin to feel natural.

You will burn away all
of the tendencies that keep
pulling you out of this moment
until all that is left is this moment.

Another path would
be to awaken bliss
by focusing your attention
on an object of bliss/shakti.

Such as silently repeating a mantra
or the name of a Guru, Saint or God
or even repeating "I am"
and focusing on the feeling of being.

In doing this,
you awaken the Shakti,
you awaken the bliss
and then you simply meditate
on the bliss,
letting your mind
be focused on the repetition
of the name/mantra
and letting your attention
move deeper and deeper
into the bliss.

Both methods are valid.

If you practice
awakening the bliss,
then most likely at some point
it will lead you to the first path
of stillness.

And if you practice stillness,
at some point it may
turn into devotion.

What is most important
is that you give yourself fully
to practicing it,
allowing it to evolve on its own.

Eventually both methods
will be useless
and you will simply
fall into what is here.

The radiance of this moment
will become so strong
that there will only be that.

Blessings,

Kip"

[A form dissolves and it doesn't have to be the physical form, it can be in a spiritual death, the psychological form of me dissolved.]

And, this is why I can talk about it.  I've gone into death and realized that there is no death.  Just the form dissolves.  We don't know how many of those who died violently in the last few seconds knew something deeper.  They might have spent their whole lives believing all that matters is the computer screen and my telephone calls and be totally identified with that and perhaps suddenly they were faced totally, unexpectedly with the end of form.  We don't know how many of the people in the last few seconds of their lives realized a deeper truth of who they are.

The Unknown

In spiritual seeking, the conceptual mind searches for meaning or release from suffering.  Ultimately, the mind is looking for an answer to the question, Who am I?  When the conceptual mind is involved in this seeking, questions beget answers, which beget more questions, and so forth.  The final answers to life's questions always appear out of reach, somewhere else, at some other time.

When it is seen that thought cannot solve this identity crisis, a fresh opportunity arises.  This is not necessarily the end of thought, just the end of seeking a sense of self in it.  The space within you that is already totally connected to this moment sees every attempt by the mind to get it.  In that seeing, there is a falling into a vast, spacious, silent unknown.

Non-duality is that unknown.  It points to the realization that no dualistic answer can solve this great mystery.  The mind freefalls unable to land solidly on any position.  In this freefalling, nothing needs to be solved.  The questions die in the seeing.

It is revealed that there is only This - the present play of life - and that this present reality is the answer.  What joy!  It is realized that the answer was always This.  The conceptual mind couldn't see it.  It was too busy looking for some future This or some idea of This. Ideas are never the actual This. They are second hand knowledge.

Chapter 4

Fact:  Consciousness is the Infinite Itself

(Continuation...)

Awareness Itself never takes on any finite or observable form, not even the most ethereal. Awareness never is something "out there" that is objective to Itself. Awareness never is an idea or concept to Itself.

What does it mean that Awareness, Consciousness, is infinite? It means Consciousness never can be observed or known by way of the five senses, by thinking, or even experienced emotionally-for all of those would be finite. Consciousness is completely "beyond" the finite world of the mind and senses. Yet it's undeniable-here infinite Consciousness is, effortlessly present and aware. The fact that Consciousness is infinite and without dimension hasn't suddenly made It distant, or put It afar off, has it?

From PART V: 3.

Why is it necessary to continue our breathing        practice after Session 10?

(Continuation...)

Because our breathing practice opens a space in time in which we are vulnerable to our Inner Presence, it adds a resonance of knowing into the energetic undercurrent of our life experience, keeping it effortless, clear, enjoyable, and vibrant. It is unnecessary to understand how this works for us to work it. Also, this is not about easy or good; this is about keeping it real, about keeping our attention in the moment, and about approaching our life experience with emotional maturity. This is about doing what it takes for Heaven's sakes.

The Ease Of Being

Consciousness is simultaneously the substance and the witness of whatever appears.

However, Consciousness is not separate or removed from the object, perceiving it from a distance. When an object is present, that object is one with Consciousness. If they separate, the objective aspect vanishes utterly, instantly, whilst Consciousness remains as it always is.

Chapter 87

Keep the Mind Silent And You Shall Discover

(Continuation...)

Q: What am I to wait for?

M: For the centre of your being to emerge into consciousness. The three states -- sleeping, dreaming and waking are all in consciousness, the manifested; what you call unconsciousness will also be manifested -- in time; beyond consciousness altogether lies the unmanifested. And beyond all, and pervading all, is the heart of being which beats steadily -- manifested-unmanifested; manifested-unmanifested (saguna-nirguna).
