Advanced Self-Inquiry

"In meditation,

one of the greatest
things you can do
is become aware
of how thought identification
happens.

Become aware
of the process
of thoughts arising
and the action of
being attached
to identifying with
those thoughts.

There is a feeling
of contraction behind it,
a feeling of stress.

A feeling of constantly
holding on to something
that is flying all over the place.

And if you can recognize that
attachment
then you can begin
to let go of it.

You can begin to
rest in non attachment
where thoughts
are never even given
the power to fully become
a thought.

You will find
if you remain
un-identified
to thinking,

the power that
makes thinking happen
dissipates
and thoughts can
slow down and even
stop altogether.

And then what is left
is impersonal radiance,
a power that expands
and consumes everything
that may arise
back into itself
like a blazing fire
of consciousness.

So you see
it is not what you know,
how you act,
or even what your experience is
that is important.

We are looking behind
all of that.

We are looking at the
first action of identification
that turns the whole thing
into a personal you
with a personal mind
and a personal story.

We are breaking
that attachment
to creating that identification
and recognizing
what is left.

Remaining in what is left.

It may not be blissful
or peaceful or loving.

You can't look
to get something out of it.

You are stopping
the creation of what
is looking for bliss
in the first place
to remain in what is
undeniably here
underneath it all.

Blessings,

Kip"

[And then after awhile, a few days, a week, a few weeks if you're lucky, the food is digested and then it goes, "I'm hungry again."]

So, and that's fine if you say that after its happened, as long as you don't make some personal thing out of that and think, "I have failed.  I was in the grip of the pain-body and I couldn't do it.  I couldn't see it.  It's useless.  I might even give up.  You see..." This little inner dialogue.  Do you have that sometimes, a little voice that talks to you, as you?  [The voice says (implied)], "You can't do it.  Years of meditation and now you've been on retreat and you still can't do it.  You're no good."  So, you personalize that.

Uncompromising expressions of non-duality?

Some non-duality teachings claim to be "uncompromising non-dual expressions" in some attempt to set themselves apart from the apparent "compromising non-dual expressions." The mind just likes to pick a dualistic position.  "Uncompromising" exists only in relation to "compromising."  Even the idea, "Oneness," exists only in relation to the idea of "twoness" or the idea of "many."  As soon as thought arises, it takes a dualistic position in relation to some other position.  Positions exist only in relation or opposition to one another.

The One is uncompromisingly expressing itself as everything from a bird flying through the air, to a toilet flushing, to a preacher preaching the Bible, to an "uncompromising non-dual expression," to a "compromising non-dual expression."

This does not mean that all ideas are equal, which would - itself - be an idea claiming to be truer than other ideas.  It is only to point out that the dream self will attach to anything to maintain separateness including the idea that it "gets" non-duality and that the others "don't get it."  Every single thing you see, touch, taste, hear, smell, do, and feel is an uncompromising expression of the One.

Only the illusory separate self attempting to set itself apart would be interested in convincing others that its particular expression of"Oneness" is more important than the bird, toilet, preacher, or some other teaching.  When the energy of convincing falls away, there is only clarity, peace, and love.

FACT: THERE IS NOTHING GREATER THAN CONSCIOUSNESS

RIGHT NOW, YOU ARE CONSCIOUS.

(Continuation...)

That's what the word ignorant basically means: ignore-ant. It implies there is that which always is present, but is being ignored, whether knowingly or not.

What appears to be the current human era generally prides itself on being the most enlightened and savvy that evolution has produced up to now. Incredibly, there seems to remain this ignorance, a vagueness and lack of clarity as to the meaning of even the most basic words, those so fundamental to living. You'll be amazed at how simple words such as be, is, present, one, all, and words like conscious or alive are often so hazily defined.

You are about to see what these words truly mean-but not by intellectual analysis. Far from it. One never finds Consciousness Itself in words. The true meaning of these words is a specific conscious "experience"-an alive Presence that literally comes to life because It is Your Life. What is the actual "stuff" that the word Consciousness stands for? What is It that has to be present first, in order to need the word to label It? You already are unstoppably being that which is changelessly "behind" all these words.

The Presence Portal

31. I am a heroine user attempting to resolve the cause of my addiction. Since starting the Process I have repeated nightmares about similar past life experiences. I am struggling with the fear these nightmares generate. THE PRESENCE PROCESS focuses on healing the child within us, but what about working with our past life traumas? What if the cause of addiction is not in this life?

Only love is real, and therefore by embracing the responsibility to actively channel unconditional love into our own heart are we able to move beyond these illusions. This is the only real assistance available to us: The love we give ourselves no matter what.

What We Are, It Is

(Continuation...)

[Then the Oneness of deep sleep creates within itself or becomes the faculties of sensing and perceiving, without ever becoming anything other than itself, and, as a result, space is created]

With the appearance of this new dimension, the waking state appears and with it the world.

At no time in this process is there an entity that wakes up, that proceeds from deep sleep to the dream state, or from the dream state to the waking state.

It is rather that the Oneness of deep sleep grows within itself, conceives and gives birth within itself, to the dreaming and waking worlds, which appear to proceed out of the womb of Presence, but in fact always remain within it.

Chapter 83

The True Guru

(Continuation...)

Q:  One more question.  You said that before I was born I was one with the pure being of reality; if so, who decided that I should be born?

M:  In reality you were never born and never shall die. But now you imagine that you are, or have a body and you ask what has brought about this state.  Within the limits of illusion the answer is: desire born from memory attracts you to a body and makes you think as one with it.  But this is true only from the relative point of view.  In fact, there is no body, nor a world to contain it; there is only a mental condition, a dream-like state, easy to dispel by questioning its reality.
