 Love Poems
Flawless (5/28/11)
By Ana Ram Callan
(I'd like to offer a series of love poems for my Beloved Ramana. Please note that I refer to Him variously as Ram, Rama. and Ramana, as He is an embodiment of Divine Consciousness, ultimately without a name at all.)

Seeing Through the Mind
"If you observe the process of identifying with thoughts, you will find that there is a pleasure in identifying with that thought.
And what I mean by identifying is you grab hold of that thought, you make that thought you, it becomes your identity. So say a memory arises about your mother and immediately you make that thought about you. Instead of noticing a thought just arouse and letting it go, you become involved with it, you become involved with the emotions, memories and judgments around it. You become the person in that story. This is me, that's my Mom, this is the story about my Mom and me, how happy or sad it makes me to remember this.
On and on it goes all from a thought arising. And in getting involved in that story, a small amount of endorphins are released. You feel pleasure. Every time you get involved with a thought and turn it into a story and make it about you and your life, there is a pleasure there. And part of that pleasure is that you are a someone and someone special.
The sense of being an individual self is intoxicating to a certain degree. Otherwise, why would you do it?
So what I want to point out is in meditation I am saying be aware of thinking instead of identifying, yet there is a pleasure there that you are giving up in doing so.
If you are not identifying with thinking, then that sense of being an individual person is not there.
What is there, what you are is not definable, it is not a solid something with boundaries. And so the pull is to go back to that sense of being an individual with a story and a definition and all the drama that goes with it.
Because you do get something out of it, you do get a pleasure out of it. It's like a security blanket.
Even in your most dramatic emotions of sadness and loss you get a hit off of it. And I am not telling you to stop it, or give it up.
Just by being aware of this process, being aware of how this whole individual mind/self works it begins to fall apart on its own.
Simply through observation, the whole self importance of being an ego begins to fall apart.
You stop romanticizing this idea of 'me' because the truth of what is here seems much more appealing than the play you have been caught up in. Tape 5
[The interpretation - old emotional pain - The interpretation becomes a reaction.] Reaction - "Bad weather" deadens it enough. But when it's reactive then you feel very bad about the 'bad' weather. And you are completely 'identified' with feeling bad about the bad weather. And complaining. |

Reflections of the One Life: Daily Pointers to Enlightenment by Scott Kiloby by BookSurge Publishing Paperback ~ release Date: 2009-08-10

June 17th The spiritual ego Thought just wants something to hold onto. It is seeking to understand conceptually the unnamable truth to which the words consciousness, enlightenment, non-duality, God, Allah, presence, Buddha, nirvana, 'This,' and spirit are pointing. There is nothing wrong with any of those words. But they belong to the realm of form and are merely signs pointing to the formless spirit that animates life in every form. When formless awareness is recognized, attachment to form releases. By simply noticing attachment to spiritual ideas, those ideas lose their grip and a natural surrender happens. It is realized that form is formlessness and vice versa, something thought cannot grasp. That does not mean that the words are no longer used. It means that there is no attachment to them. It is realized that form is an expression of formlessness. The separate self is attachment to form (to ideas). The self makes its idea (e.g., God, non-duality, Brahman, Buddha) more important than the others' ideas in an attempt to keep the story of a "separate me" alive. This is the spiritual ego. The spiritual ego seeks to have its conception of truth prevail in the world of ideas. The spiritual ego is just as false as any other story of "me." It is bringing conflict to the world under the guise of "spirituality." |

Our True Body
(Continuation...)
And yet when we say that our hand is closer to us, to Consciousness, than 'the sound in the distance,' or that a thought is closer to us than our hand, it is equally absurd. That is not our experience. Our experience is that each appears at the same zero distance from Consciousness. And if we now look very closely at the substance of the object that is appearing within Consciousness, we find that it cannot be differentiated from it in any way. There is no part of the experience of an object that is not utterly saturated and permeated by Consciousness itself. §

We need to experience a shift in our thinking that will move us from a linear, fragmented, external view of ourselves to acceptance of the unseen connection of all aspects of our consciousness. This new way of understanding ourselves will require us to discard information in our programming that doesn't serve us any longer. |

Chapter 82
Absolute Perfection is Here and Now.
(Continuation...)
Q: Why do I imagine at all.
M: (Continuation...)
The witness of birth, life and death is one and the same.
It is the witness of pain and love.
For while the existence in limitation and separation is sorrowful, we love it.
We love it and hate it at the same time.
We fight, we kill, we destroy life and property and yet we are affectionate and self-sacrificing.
We nurse the child tenderly and orphan it too.
Our life is full of contradictions.
Yet we cling to it.
This clinging is at the root of everything.
Still, it is entirely superficial.
We hold on to something or somebody, with all our might and next moment we forget it; like a child that shapes it mud-pies and abandons them light-heartedly.
Touch them-it will scream with anger, divert the child and he forgets them.
For our life is now, and the love is now.
We love variety, the play of pain and pleasure, we are fascinating by contrasts.
For this we need the opposites and their apparent separation.
We enjoy them for a time and then get tired and crave for the peace and silence of pure bring.
The cosmic heart beats ceaselessly.
I am the witness and the heart too.

 From Above...
(Jordan highlights or comments on quotes from the teachings above |
|
Eckhart Tolle: "And you are completely 'identified' with feeling bad about the bad weather."
Jordan: I think the point is that you can identify with anything, not just the weather, and however you feel about it, you confuse it with you, and a deeper sense of how you are. (obvious, I suppose.)
