Love Poems

Flawless
(5/28/11)

By Ana Ram Callan

(I'd like to offer a series of love poems for my Beloved Ramana.  Please note that I refer to Him variously as Ram, Rama. and Ramana, as He is an embodiment of Divine Consciousness, ultimately without a name at all.)

To Realize Freedom

"Awareness itself
is always free.

If you are completely aware
in this moment,
watching what is arising
instead of being caught up
in what is arising,
then the experience is freedom.

Yet if you remain aware
without getting caught up,
at some point it will no longer
feel like freedom.

The urge to again attach
yourself and identify yourself
to what is here
is so strong
that eventually
it will overpower awareness
and again you will identify
with what is here in order
to release this build up
of pressure.

Many will simply
dip in and out
of awareness.

They will have a taste of awareness
and then go back to identification
and in this way,
the bliss of awareness
begins to flow over
into mind identification.

This is certainly one method.

Another method
is to consciously lengthen
that time of awareness
or even break out of that
urge to identify with thinking
all together.

Then there is the willingness
to do whatever it takes;
to commit yourself
to spiritual practice
and disciplines
which are conducive to awareness.

You really either fall in love
with awareness
or you are so desperate
to break out of mind identification
that you give yourself fully to the task.

And although outer things
get addressed like
diet, exercise, relinquishing
addictions, creating an enlightened
energetic environment around you,

there is an inner movement
that takes place:
The willingness to remain
firm in awareness
use whatever techniques
or non techniques
to break through that
urge to identify with the mind.

Or, through observation,
you pick that
mind identification mechanism apart piece by piece
until it breaks,
until you are released
into an unconditional awareness
that does not pull you back.

In this method
you most likely move beyond
the social aspect
of spirituality,
you go beyond the beliefs
and ideas of how it is supposed
to be and investigate for yourself
what really is true in this moment,
what really works for you
to fully awaken to freedom.

And what really works
maybe completely
different than what
you thought it would be.

You come out the other end
completely different
than who you thought you were
in the first place.

And that is magnificent,
that is true freedom.

To realize bliss
all ideas of who you think
you are and what you know
fly out the window.

Blessings,

Kip"

Tape 5

Once the two have linked together - the old emotional pain and thought structures that deny the now, - then you have an enormous, heavy, sense of self suddenly because the thoughts are so empowered, so amplified by the old emotion that very easily they draw all your attention in, so that you are completely identified with the thought stream because it's so powerful.

It's powered by emotion.

Humility

Thought dreams up a center known as "me."  That dream is all about what happened in the past to "me," what I hope will happen in the future to "me," and how I am not satisfied with what is happening right now to "me."

The word humility points to the absence of attachment to that stream of thought.  In this realization, thoughts still arise but the energy of attachment to them releases.  It is realized that there is no center to life.  There is great love and freedom in that release.

You can philosophize for years about the meaning of the word "humility" without ever tasting the real truth to which the word points.  To realize humility, simply notice in each moment when thought is in past, future, or resistance to now.  Notice thoughts of wanting to be right, wanting to be someone special in relation to someone else including higher, better, smarter, or more spiritual than another.  Notice thought's tendency to "one-up" someone, especially in a spiritual discussion.

In being aware of this thought movement, its self-centered nature is seen.  The sense of a separate self is seen as a dream of thought.  What is left is awareness.  Awareness is naturally humble.  The story of "you" cannot achieve humility.  Humility happens only in the absence of attachment to that story.

Our True Body

(Continuation...)

Is not the actual experience of the body a collection of minute, amorphous, tingling sensations free-floating in the space of Consciousness?

And if we look at these sensations, are they not permeated and saturated with the presence of Consciousness in which they appear?

The continuity and coherence that we normally ascribe to the body, in fact belong to Consciousness.

30. Why do we only begin the water sessions in Session Seven?

(Continued...)

This is why the water sessions only begin in the seventh week; because we are choosing mercy over sacrifice. When making adjustments to the emotional body, we are not to behave reactively, like a dog snapping at a bone. We are stepping beyond the frequency of instant gratification and choosing to honor the power of an intentional procedure. This is why The Presence Process is efficient; every part of it supports every other part of it. Every moment of our journey through it is designed to accommodate our highest interest; liberation from a time-based paradigm and subsequent re-entry into present moment awareness in as gentle manner as is possible.

 You Can't "Do" Meditation

(Continued...)

To experience this, sit in a comfortable position and remain still. Your mind is less likely to be active if your body isn't moving. Initially there may be many distractions. You might feel sleepy, have all kinds of thoughts come to you, or begin feeling certain emotions. The mind may argue: "This is silly. I have so many unfinished things to do. I'm just wasting my time. I have to get up and do something. I have to find the cure for my illness." Don't concern yourself with this, but simply notice any stress in your body, particularly in your muscles, which are the body's shield and for this reason tend to carry the most ten

Breathe naturally for a few moments, then take a really deep breath from the very bottom of your lungs. Don't gasp as you do this. Instead, breathe slowly and effortlessly. Hold your breath for a couple of seconds, then exhale very, very slowly, letting go of any tension. Breathe this way as many times as you wish.

Chapter 82

Absolute Perfection is Here and Now.

Questioner:  The war is on.  What is your attitude to it?

Maharaj:  In some place or other, in some form or other, the war is always on.  Was there a time when there was no war?  Some say it is the will of God.  Some say it is God's play.  It is another way of saying that wars are inevitable and nobody is responsible.

Q:  But what is your own attitude?

M:  Why impose attitudes on me?  I have no attitude to call my own.
