Pediatric Obesity Section

Welcome to the Pediatric Obesity Section Newsletter!

ed

Obesity 2011, the 29th Annual Scientific Meeting of The Obesity Society, is less than 1 month away!

Mark your calendars! Please join us on Tuesday, October 4 from 12:15-2:15pm for the annual Pediatric Obesity Section Meeting and Bar-Or Lecture.

It is our pleasure to announce Dr. Nancy Butte as the 2011 recipient of the Oded Bar-Or Award for Excellence in Pediatric Obesity Research. Founded in 2007 by Dr. Melinda Sothern and Dr. Michael Goran, the Bar-Or Award raises public awareness of pediatric obesity research efforts by formally recognizing significant lifetime contributions of leaders in the field. Dr. Butte, Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, is an internationally recognized expert in human nutrition and metabolism with a focus on childhood obesity.

Dr. Anthony Comuzzie, Scientist at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute and colleague of Dr. Butte's, will make the formal presentation of the award, which will be followed by an address by Dr. Butte. The Bar-Or Lecture is always a highlight of The Obesity Society meeting, and a special benefit for Pediatric Obesity Section members attending our Section meeting!

NOTE: Because our Annual Section Meeting occurs during lunch, we had hoped to provide lunch for our members, as we did last year. However, we were unable to obtain sufficient support to cover the cost, and we thus recommend that you either bring lunch from one of the vendors within the conference center, or purchase a lunch in advance through The Obesity Society which is being offered at a 10% discount due to a generous donation from COSMED, INC. You must order these boxed lunches in advance using the TOS online registration form. The cost is $25, and it is available for up to 125 registrants. Healthy boxed lunches will include seasonal fresh fruit cup and cucumber-tomato salad along with one of the following sandwich options:

  • Turkey (House Roasted ~ Whole Wheat Roll ~ Pepper Mayo)
  • Tuna Salad (Wrap)
  • Vegetarian ~ Grilled Portobello ~ Roasted Peppers ~ Pesto Aioli (Wrap)

Pitchers of water will be available at each table.

To order:
