| Dear ,
As a new season begins, we have a few exciting announcements to make. With the growth of The Opportunity Show comes a redesigned website. Now you can read our newsletter articles online, make comments on our latest blog post and link to our Twitter and Facebook sites. There are also podcasts from the radio interviews Mark has been doing, and an innovative tag cloud which helps you access the content on our site that speaks most directly to you on any given day.
In this issue of our newsletter, we invite you to think deeply about the need for community in your business and in your life. We offer several extraordinary examples of how community is expressed today. Mark's article posits that the need for community in our lives today has never been greater. In The Power of an Idea, Andrew tells us about an outside-the-box project that seeks to revolutionize urban development by using film as a viral catalyst. In our feature on Send Out Cards we profile a one-of-a-kind company that has built a simple, powerful online tool to help people connect in the physical world. And finally, we ask you to chime in with what community means to you and to tell us about the ways that you put community to work in your life.
As always, have fun, learn a little each day, and let us know what kinds of Opportunities you're looking for! And here's something that you can help us with. We want to grow our list of subscribers to 100,000 passionate people who want to create opportunities to improve their life, and in turn, make the world a better place. Know someone? Click here and share us with a friend.

By Mark Monchek
We need each other now more than ever. In this time of mind-boggling doubt and
uncertainty, it is clear to me that we cannot survive on our own. I've learned beyond a shadow of a doubt that
our own happiness is intertwined with that of our neighbors. We are in this awful sinkhole because we
deluded ourselves with a powerful, destructive belief: our own interests are
paramount, regardless of the consequences.
The notion that we as a nation rise and fall together has been
lost. In an arc beginning with the
1970's "Me Generation" and the "cowboy capitalism" of the Regan era, to the
ultimately disappointing Clinton
years and the cynicism and bitterness of Bush/Cheney/Rove, that feeling of
community has been lost. Let's bring it
back. Now.

The Power of an Idea
by Andrew Levine
It's
no secret that many US cities are in deep trouble these days and that the
discovery of a successful and replicable model for urban renewal would be a big
story. Across the river from New York
City that story may be unfolding with a renewal project for Patterson, NJ. Even
better, this story has some secret ingredients.
One is a documentary film called Time to
Impact, directed by award-winning film maker Tom Capello (A Powerful Noise). The other is Richard Krasney, the executive
producer of the film. Krasney
wants to find a way to reframe what we think is possible in the world of urban
renewal. Time to Impact is the impetus for that paradigm shift and Krasney's team
is aiming high with the goal of turning Patterson around 180 degrees in 365 days.

Defining Community- Not So Easy
Community was probably never easy to define adequately. By its nature, it's a complex concept. Today- it's nearly impossible. We belong to many communities and the ways we integrate them and make them work, or fail to make them work, are as varied as the number of new blog posts on any given day. Yet aren't we all struggling with similar needs and similar questions? At the Opportunity Show, we're intrigued by the idea of "belonging" and invite you to share with us :
What does community mean to you these days?
How do you integrate the online and real world communities in your life? Read More and Post a Comment

Send your answers to info@performx.net
Answer to our last issue's question:
Which language has the most blogposts?
Japanese.
Although English speakers outnumber Japanese speakers by 5-1 there are slightly more posts in Japanese.
