Mark Monchek of PerformXcellence Greetings!

These are times of great fear as well as of great excitement. Times that none of us were ready for, yet must be completely aware of. Just as early as the summer of 2008, as bad as the economy has become, few could honestly say that we knew what was about to hit us just weeks ahead.

As one by one, the big Swinging Dicks of Wall Street fell, almost without warning, the world we thought we knew shifted from under our feet. Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, AIG, The Big Three automakers, all the way down to the cafés and hardware stores on Main Street, they are all either gone or just hanging on.

We at The Opportunity Show hope that you pick up practical knowledge from every issue, as well as inspiration, and start testing some of the ideas covered here; that you get real insights and useful information as you plan your trek along this bumpy road of difficult times and changing conditions. That by experimenting with them and with some innovative thinking you'll discover new ways to adapt and lead a successful business and career.
The Economy of Fear and
How We Can Respond to it
By Mark Monchek

An economy of fear occurs when people are afraid to look at the newspaper for fear of what scary headlines they are going to find. What started off in the beginning of 2008 as a significant recession is now being called the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression. At the same time, there are ways for us not only to cope, but to thrive, in this uncertain climate.

Hulu LogoWhy you need to know about Hulu

By the Opportunity Show Staff & Donnie Pugliesse, Jr.

If you spend a lot of time on the Web, you may have heard a lot about Hulu. So what's the big deal? First, a little background. Back in the mid-1990s the first online music stores opened their (virtual) doors for business. Unfortunately, in spite of the availability of exciting new technologies, these retailers were forced to conduct business like every other store: stock physical CDs and sell them to customers. That's because the recording industry refused to allow users to download a single song or create mixes. In essence, CDNow, Amazon and other sites weren't allowed to take advantage of the full capacity of the Web...

So what does a cool entertainment Website have to do with you? Simply put - everything. The long and tortured history of online videos (culminating with the launch of Hulu) can provide valuable lessons for any organization looking to improve its marketing position.

  • Lesson One: Technology evolves faster than you do!
  • Lesson Two: Holding on to an old approach doesn't make you a leader - it just makes you stubborn.
  • Lesson Three: If you don't listen to your customers, they'll go elsewhere.
  • Lesson Four: Even if you're right, you can still be wrong.
  • Lesson Five: There may be untapped sources of revenue right under your nose.
Jen of PerformXcellence Opportunity Show's First Political Candidate Wins in Election Landslide
PerformXcellence, in its first ever role as political consultant, helped Manhattan college junior Jennifer Bardong crush her opponent in a classic showdown between Bardong, an independent bi-partisan, and her opponent, a business as usual partisan candidate. The Px strategy, shake a hand, win a vote, was executed flawlessly by Bardong a naturally gifted campaigner, who also happens to pull double duty as the Px chief of staff.

Up next for px? An unnamed source told Max Resto, editor of The Opportunity Show, that Px was in negotiations with John A. Brown, a political newcomer, who recently entered the race for mayor of Bangor, Pa.

In the meantime Px CEO Mark Monchek said his next order of business was to put together a transition team who will be ready when Bardong's term begins in September.
