New Features in the Catalog
Upgrade coming in mid-September
Our catalog and check-out system will be getting some cool new features with a mid-September upgrade.
The look will change a bit, but all of the current functions will stay the same.
Information about items will be displayed more clearly, and you'll be able to see on a map which branches have the item you want. You'll have new ways to narrow down a search, and the option to get receipts by email or text, instead of paper.
If you have any questions - about the catalog or anything else - of course, please contact us. |

Antietam Anniversary September 17th marks the 150th anniversary of the battle In honor of the sesquicentennial of the Battle of Antietam on Sept. 17, there are lots of events at the battlefield and good information on the web.
The Western Md. Historical Library (WHILBR) has scanned and indexed lots of fascinating documents about the battle and the war in general. For example, you can see the accounts of the battle in the Hagerstown newspaper.
We've done a list of books about the battle for kids, and you can find books for all ages in our catalog.

Featured Online Resources
Homework help @ your library
Now that the school year is in full swing, we wanted to remind you about the different ways we can help with homework:
Free online tutors: HelpNow
HelpNow is a web-based service where students in grades K-12 (and adults, too) can get one-on-one tutoring in any subject, every day from 2:00 pm to midnight. They have a lot of other great services, too, such as online flash cards you can make, practice exams, and more. You'll find links to HelpNow at the bottom of our homepage, and on our kids' page. All you need is a library card!
Online librarians via chat: AskUsNow
Have a quick question that a librarian can help with? Anytime day or night you can chat with an information professional through Maryland AskUsNow. Librarians throughout the country staff this service to answer questions from customers. Again, there's a link at the bottom of our homepage.
Librarians in person
Don't forget that your local branch librarians can always help with homework, too! Just stop by or call whenever we're open.
Other resources on our website
Our kids' page has a bunch of other good resources for homework - all free, and all librarian-certified useful.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!
There are lots of reasons to get a library card. If you aren't sure where your card is, or if you never had one, come on in during National Library Card Sign-Up Month. Parents are welcome to get a card, too!
