Get suggestions from our new catalog!
The new catalog system includes a lot of great features, including several ways to discover new books you might like.
On the opening search page, you'll find links to our BookShare list of notable new books, links to best-seller lists, and a link to a list of the most circulated (that is, most often checked out) books. Also, when you're looking at the full display for a book, click the links on the right to find similar series, authors, or titles.
And finally, don't forget that you can get reading suggestions delivered to your email box every month, with our free book newsletters. Choose which types of books you like, from travel to mystery, sci fi to romance, and sign up to get outstanding recommendations. |
Now Available - Pay Fines Online
Speaking of the new catalog - you can now pay your fines online, provided the amount is $1.00 or more. On our webpage, just click "My Account" and sign in with your library card number and password. Then click "Fines & Fees" to see what you owe and pay with a credit card. Questions or problems? Contact us!

Author Scott Hipp on Maryland's Civil War History
150 years ago, many Washington County residents had to choose sides in the newly begun Civil War. Join us August 11th for a fascinating discussion of Marylanders' experiences during this period. Scott Hipp, author of the new book Old Line Divided: Maryland in the Civil War will discuss the unit histories of regiments in both the Confederate and Union armies that were raised from the Washington County area. His talk will take place at the Boonsboro Branch, on Saturday August 11th, at 11:00 a.m. |

Consumer Reports online
We subscribe to a magazine database that includes full issues of Consumer Reports - you just need to enter your library card number. On the page that comes up, click "search within this publication." For more details, see our database list.
USA.gov
The main web site for the Federal Government has a consumer section, with info on how to file complaints, how to avoid scams and fraud, and how to get the free "Consumer Action Handbook."
IPL.org
The Internet Public Library has listings of useful websites on hundreds of topics, including consumer issues. The nice thing about their lists is that you know a librarian has looked at the sites and decided they really are useful and reliable.

Still Time to Enter Our BookFace Contest
What is a BookFace photo? It is the use of a book cover design to obscure or augment any part of your body, causing the illusion that there is only one subject. Check out this picture on our Facebook page for another possible idea. To enter our contest, use any book cover to create a photo. The contest runs from July 15th-August 15th, and you must be between the ages of 12 and 18 to enter. All entries must be in digital format and e-mailed to wcflchildren@washcolibrary.org. Questions?
