CLIMATE CHANGE INVITES ALIEN INVADERS: IS CANADA READY?
| | IRIS Publishes Paper in Environmental Reviews Journal
Is Canada ready for the alien invaders invited by climate change? IRIS is thrilled to announce the recently published article, Effects of climate change on the distribution of invasive alien species in Canada: a knowledge synthesis of range change projections in a warming world, in the journal Environmental Reviews by senior fellow, Andrea Smith. Along with eight co-authors from York University, Smith reviewed published journal articles on the effects of climate change and the distribution of existing invasive species. Significant gaps in the knowledge and research on the repercussions of climate change were identified, such as the effects of potential invasive species that might expand their range in Canada, as well as the socio-economic dimension of the problem. The growth of scientific knowledge of these issues can be used as a foundation for policy development to mitigate these problems. Read the Press Release. |

More About IRIS and this Newsletter
The Institute for Research and Innovation in Sustainability is a university-wide research centre that pursues an interdisciplinary approach to the challenges of sustainability. Through our collaborations on sustainability related research projects and innovative initiatives, we hope to generate awareness amongst the York University community of our social, natural and economic spheres, while engaging students, staff and faculty in action that creates change on campus and beyond.
The IRIS Newsletter is a way to keep you informed about what we are up to so that you can drop by an event, get involved, or just learn about what research projects we are currently undertaking. The Newsletter is sent out once or twice per month, highlighting the IRIS, York University, and broader community's sustainability news and events!
