CLIMATE CHANGE INVITES ALIEN INVADERS:
IS CANADA READY?

IRIS Publishes Paper in Environmental Reviews Journal

Is Canada ready for the alien invaders invited by climate change? IRIS is thrilled to announce the recently published article, Effects of climate change on the distribution of invasive alien species in Canada: a knowledge synthesis of range change projections in a warming world, in the journal Environmental Reviews by senior fellow, Andrea Smith. Along with eight co-authors from York University, Smith reviewed published journal articles on the effects of climate change and the distribution of existing invasive species. Significant gaps in the knowledge and research on the repercussions of climate change were identified, such as the effects of potential invasive species that might expand their range in Canada, as well as the socio-economic dimension of the problem. The growth of scientific knowledge of these issues can be used as a foundation for policy development to mitigate these problems. Read the Press Release.
