The Buzz this Month!
August is here and welcome to the tenth edition of the Torrance Centennial eNewsletter! We're heading into the home stretch of the Centennial celebration and last month was... shall we say Rockin'?! The Torrance Historical Society Rock Around A Century - Jared Sidney Torrance Birthday was awesome. So many families and friends came together to celebrate a Century. A wonderful event where there was bopping music, vintage clothing, pictures with Jared, exhibits, hopscotch, marbles, and hula hoops highlighted the day. The event was hosted in partnership with the City of Torrance, CitiCABLE, DJ Ozzie, COSTCO, Torrance Bakery, Old Torrance Neighborhood Assoc., and was sponsored by Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance. The month concluded with the Torrance Centennial Photo Contest - Our TorrancePhotos: A Family Album at the Toyota USA Automobile Museum. To view the contest finalist, visit to www.OurTorrancePhotos.com.
Although the deadline to purchase a Commemorative Personalized Brick , to be installed before the dedication has passed, you can still be part of the Centennial Plaza and El Prado Park. Purchase today and your brick will join the more than 800, in an installation following the dedication ceremony. Your support will offset the actual cost of construction and you will be forever a part of Torrance history.
History? Did I say history? Now is your chance to enter the weekly Where's Jared Photo Location Contest? Each Monday, by 9 a.m. a new photo will be posted here. All you will need to do is figure out where the picture was taken, and then send an email to Centennial@TorranceCA.Gov with your best guess. We will accept responses until the following Sunday, at 5 p.m. Winner(s) will be notified via email no later than Monday at noon. For contest rules, click here. Prizes include your choice of a Centennial T-Shirt, a Women's Visor, or (2) Tote Bags. There's still time to enter this week!

This month we invite you to the International Surf Festival on August 3rd through 5th. The Festival, now in its 51st year is a project of four South Bay cities. Participants range in ages from 8 to the 80's. Join us for this exciting event.
Also this month Torrance is sticking with outdoor sports and going soccer! Torrance Day with LA Galaxy is August 26th at 4 p.m. at the Home Depot Center. Join your neighbors and friends for an exciting day of soccer on our very own special evening. Get your discounted tickets today!

CENTURY CLUB
By Torrance Youth Council/Torrance Centennial Committee
Armande Bronner Molle (108) was born on July 11, 1904 in Champlain, N.Y. She was the second to the youngest of eight children and is the only one still alive. She married Albert Molle in 1924 and they were married for 40 years.
They both worked for the Air Force and lived in San Bernardino, CA for many years. When Albert died in 1964, Armande continued to live in her home in San Bernardino. Until she was in her 90s, she traveled extensively throughout the world. In 2002 her nephew brought her to Torrance and the Huntington Retired Living Assisted Home where she has lived for the past 10 years.
Her family- her great nephew and especially his wife Irene, give Armande support and lots of company. At the Huntington, she spends her time reading and talking to all her friends, especially the staff members either in English or fluent French.
In Amande's own words, she says, "Happiness comes easy as I share my attitude. I did everything beautiful, everything I like to do. I like to laugh, I like to talk, I love everybody (Daily Breeze 7/13/12)."
