| STUDENTS TAKE ON TORRANCE | |

Calling all 8th graders who attend public and private schools in the city of Torrance! Students and Government Day is a great opportunity for you to gain an understanding of local government. To participate, you must neatly write or type a 100 - 150 word essay on the topic: "The City of Torrance is celebrating its Centennial (100th Birthday) in 2012. You are a student in 2012 and are traveling back in time to 1912. What one person or item would you take with you and how would that make a difference in your life?" Essays must be submitted to the respective social studies teacher by February 22, 2012. 22 applicants will be invited to participate in a variety of activities on May 1st, including job shadowing elected officials or city management staff for the afternoon and opening an actual City Council meeting. SENIORS: DON'T BE SCAMMED!

On Tuesday, February 21st from 10 a.m. - Noon, at the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library Community Meeting Room, seniors, caregivers, family & friends are invited to learn about the latest scams. Information will be available from the NTVCC (National Telemarketing Victim Call Center), KEEP-SAFE, H.E.L.P., Torrance Library's WOW - Words on Wheels Program, Torrance Senior Programs, and Torrance Focal Point on Aging - Information and Referral.
