St. Francis of Assisi School Newsletter

June 6, 2012

Dear St. Francis Families,
Christian service reflects a powerful and important part of Catholic education and what it means to be Catholic. Christian service is a powerful way to preach the Gospel, not by words but by action. This famous quote by St. Francis of Assisi, "Preach the Gospel always, if necessary, use words" compels us to live our faith. Words are important but we need to walk the talk, too. The St. Francis of Assisi School community has modeled action by demonstrating great care for others in the works that we do. I wish to thank the students, teachers, and parents for your incredible display of compassion and generosity. Time and again, you were asked to open your hearts and your wallets. Through service to others, our children learn how to respond to the call to meet the needs of the poor, the sick, and the disadvantaged.
Here is a list of the organizations supported by the St.Francis School community throughout the 2011/2012 school year.
Ronald McDonald House
Orangewood Children's Center
Second Harvest Food Bank
Mary's Kitchen
Catholic Charities
Catholic Worker
St. Vincent de Paul Society
Muscular Dystrophy Association
Battered Women Shelter
Stuffed Animals for Emergencies
American Cancer Society
Leukemia/Lymphoma Society
St. Joseph's School in Uganda
Somalia Relief Fund
World Wildlife Fund
Together we have touched the hearts and souls of those in need and by doing so we have answered God's call to serve our brothers and sisters.
Blessings,
Tom Waszak Principal |

Carline Reminder of the Week
|
There is no pedestrian crossing in front of the parking lot entry/exit in the cul-de-sac in the mornings. Because the flow of cars is steady and fast, it is too dangerous to cross the children in this area in the mornings and it impedes the flow of traffic.
There are absolutely no U-turns in the cul-de-sac between 7:40am and 8:10 am and there is no parking in the red zone (even if you are running late or just need to drop something off).

For the fourth year at St. Francis, we are recognizing good student behavior through the Caught Being Good program. Modeling Christ-like behavior, helping another student, or simply being good gives students the opportunity to receive a Caught Being Good ticket. Teachers and administration may "catch" students being good, and students submit their tickets to be drawn at random and recognized with a prize and their names over the announcements.
Congratulations to the last two week's winners:
Brian A. 5B
Tyler B. KA
Ciara C. 3B
Monica H. 4A
Ryan S. 3B
Erica T. KA
Ava W. 2B

Parent Satisfaction Survey
|
In an effort to help us improve and better serve our families, we ask for your help to complete an online "parent satisfaction" survey. The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete depending on your comments to the optional free response questions. This is your chance to tell us in your own words how we are doing. The more we know from you, the better we can serve your child. Grade level responses will be shared with teachers and the aggregate results with the faculty and parents next fall.

Please encourage your students going into fourth through eighth grade to continue to use ALEKS over the summer. Use your same password and complete your pie. Working in ALEKS over the summer and continuing to review will help to maintain math skills over the summer.
Also, remember to work in your Quick Tables to build your speed with math facts. This will build your math muscle in math computation for the ITBS tests that will be in the fall. ALEKS a few minutes in the morning will set you up for success in your next grade level.
