St. Francis of Assisi School Newsletter

Home of the Wolves

May 30, 2012

Dear St. Francis Families,        Tom Waszak

In all my years in education I have never witnessed a teacher appreciation week like the one I experienced last week! It was an amazing show of gratitude by parents toward their children's teachers and the school staff.

On a daily basis I observe examples of dedication and passion displayed by teachers and staff as they work to form our students academically, personally, and spiritually. It is a daunting task to understand and address multiple learning styles, meet individual needs, and bring out the best in each student while simultaneously working with parents and administrators.

I am gratified to see St. Francis parents recognize the great work of our teachers through such an incredible display of generosity. I know that I speak for the entire staff when I say thank you for your thoughtful and generous outpouring of support. A special thanks to Laurie Warye Schoenke, who chaired the Teacher Appreciation Week committee, and the many parents who gave of their time, talent and treasure to make the this a very special week!

St. Francis parents are the best!

Tom Waszak

Parent Satisfaction Survey

In an effort to help us improve and better serve our families, we ask for your help to complete an online "parent satisfaction" survey. The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete depending on your comments to the optional free response questions. This is your chance to tell us in your own words how we are doing. The more we know from you, the better we can serve your child. Grade level responses will be shared with teachers and the aggregate results with the faculty and parents next fall.

Because some of the questions are grade specific, please complete one survey per child. The survey must be submitted by Friday, June 8th.

Please use the following link to access the survey for each of your children:

Preschool and Prekindergarten

Kindergarten - Eighth Grade

Carline Reminder of the Week

ALL pedestrians must use the crosswalk during car line hours. Please do not walk between the cars during car line. We want to teach the children the right way, by example!

Please click to view the  carline rules for the 2011-2012 school year.

Pink Cow Fundraiser

Campus Ministry is sponsoring our annual Pink Cow fundraiser. Don't forget your $2.00 for a Pink Cow (vanilla ice cream with strawberry soda) or a Brown Cow (root beer float). Enjoy this delicious treat on Thursday, May 31, 2012. Proceeds will go St. Joseph Primary School in Uganda. Fr. Josephat Ddungu, who visited our school in previous years, and who has built and expanded this school. The cost to educate one child for a year at St. Joseph's is only $100.00. Through your generous donations we hope to help many children realize their dream of a Catholic education.

Family Movie Night at St. Francis

Mark your calendars! On Friday, June 1st at 6:00 pm, St. Francis will host a movie night. All families and friends are invited! We will be screening Toy Story III. Please see the office for more information.

Graduating Class of 2013

8th grade jackets need to be ordered very soon. Vicki Marsha was on campus last week and had students try on jackets for size. If your student was unable to try on jackets or you would like to confirm their size, all sample size jackets are in the school office. You may bring your student in and try them on for size and then order by mail, phone, or email. Jackets will be in the school office until the end of school, June 15. Please call the office if you have any questions.

A Big Thank you for Teacher Appreciation Week

St. Francis of Assisi School would like to thank Mrs. Wayre Schoenke with her amazing creativity and organization and all of our parents for a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week. The amount of planning, time, talent and treasure that goes into this week is overwhelming. From decorated doors, flowers, treats and continual feasting you made us feel like Kings and Queens! The week was filled with amazing surprises and capped with a duty free day, delicious luncheon and prizes for all. Thank you for your kindness and generosity, and most importantly for your continued support.

Message from the Teacher Appreciation Week Chair

To All the 2012 Teacher Appreciation Room Representatives,
Thank you for all your efforts, creativity, time, 'out of the box' thinking and costs in making this years TAW a success! A special thanks to the Morris Family for the Teachers' Breakfast, the Velazquez Family for the catered lunch and the Rhoades Family for the custom chair for the auction! You all made this week extra special!

Thank You from the Gibson Family

GibsonThe Gibson family would like to say "Yummy" and a great big thank you to all the amazing teachers and staff who cooked us dinner last week as part of the St. Francis 2012 Auction "Amidst the Clouds." The food was AMAZING - Nicholas and Emily are still enjoying the desserts and Mrs. Gibson can't thank you enough for allowing her one WHOLE week without cooking.

Thank you so much to Mrs. Basehart, Mrs. Beidelman, Mrs. Coad, Mrs. Cooper, Ms. Gillespie, Mrs. Klapp, Mrs. Lambert, Mrs. LeVay, Mrs. Mills, Mrs. Nagy, Mrs. Oliver, and Mrs. Watanabe. Everything was truly delicious!

Festival of Talent - Date Change

Mark your calendars for St. Francis' Festival of Talent! On Thursday, June 14th, St. Francis will be showcasing student performances, artwork, and crafts. This year we have over 50 participants! Please see next week's newsletter for the confirmed time.

July 4th St. Francis Booth Fundraiser

The City of Yorba Linda has offered St. Francis the option to have a 15' x 10' booth at the big annual Fourth of July Celebration for FREE.  The upside is the school can raise money by offering food or prizes, and generate marketing awareness. The downside is that it would involve some St. Francis volunteers to work the booth on the Fourth of July --- most likely in 2-3 hour shifts. Are you interested and should we do this? If the answer is "YES" please send an email to Mark Maricich at
