St. Francis of Assisi School Newsletter

Home of the Wolves

February 8, 2012

Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School families,

Tom Waszak

Wow! What a week! Open House, Catholic Schools Week, and the Auction Dinner Dance all within seven days! The response by parents at all three events was outstanding! Open House drew 90+% of our families along with 60 new families representing approximately 100 potential students, the majority entering preschool and prekindergarten in the fall. Catholic Schools Week highlights include school mass, vocations talks by Fr. Joe and Fr. John, blessing of the throats, and the parent volunteer breakfast hosted by St. Francis faculty and staff. The weeklong activities culminated with the 14th annual Auction at the Disneyland Hotel.

Valentine's Day ASB Opportunities

Valentine Candy Grams are on sale this week! For $0.75 students can send candy grams to each other on Valentine's Day! Grams will be sold at recess and lunch all week long!

Student Council has decided to host the JEANS DAY on Valentine's Day in honor of Mrs. Cooper and her family. Please donate $5 or more to help support our loving teacher and her family through this difficult time. Students, you can bring your donation in beginning today to earn your Jeans Day pass.

Thank you!

Thank You from Amidst the Clouds

From the bottom of our hearts to the clouds up above, thank you to all who have supported our school in the 2012 auction. We would like to personally thank all sponsors, underwriters, committee members, volunteers, school faculty, donors, and attendees. We thank you for showing us the true St. Francis of Assisi spirit and for your complete support. We hope that the time, talent & treasures that you have provided will continue to nurture our children in their efforts to be good stewards. Thank you!

Book Fair Chair Needed for April
Our next Book Fair at St. Francis will be April 23-28, 2012 and we are in need of a chairperson.

Chairs coordinate volunteers to set up, serve during book fair hours, and pack up. They also complete the final financial forms from the register tapes. This process is quick and efficient, and Scholastic Book Fairs and Mrs. Beidelman will train the new chair to provide full support.

This is an excellent way to obtain all of your volunteer hours, serve the students, and meet new friends. Please call the office (714) 695-3700 if you are interested in chairing this important event.

2012/2013 Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten Registration
We are now accepting registration for next year's St. Francis Pre-school and pre-kindergarten classes. Registration for 2012-2013 pre-school and pre-kindergarten classes began on January 30 and will continue until classes are full.

Please visit to view the entire announcement.

Parent Wanted to Organize our
St. Francis Happy Book

We are looking for one parent to creatively organize and improve the presentation of our Happy Book in the St. Francis office.

We have kept thank you notes, newspaper clippings, compliments etc. in a binder in plastic sleeves but we need someone with a loving touch to spruce up the presentation for our  WCEA WASC visitation.

We would like to have this completed by March 1, 2012. Please call the office at (714) 695-3700 if you are looking for creative volunteer hours.

This is a task that could easily be completed at home.

January Franciscan Awards

Each month, St. Francis teachers recognize one student in their classroom who embodies the behavior of our school's namesake, St. Francis. Congratulations to January's winners of this prestigious award.

Caught Being Good

For the fourth year at St. Francis, we are recognizing good student behavior through the Caught Being Good program. Modeling Christ-like behavior, helping another student, or simply being good gives students the opportunity to receive a Caught Being Good ticket. Teachers and administration may "catch" students being good, and students submit their tickets to be drawn at random and recognized with a prize and their names over the announcements.

Congratulations to last week's winners:

Computer Lab Open for ALEKS-
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

In an effort to support our new, online supplemental math computer program ALEKS in grades 3-8, we will be opening the computer lab on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-3:30 p.m. Students will have supervision, and this will be on a fist come, first serve basis for the first few weeks. If we find demand exceeds seats available, we will establish a sign up list in advance.

If a student attends Day Care, he or she must sign in to Day Care and then let the supervisors know he/she will be working on ALEKS in the computer lab. Students not attending day care should be picked up from the computer lab at 3:30. Day Care students will be walked back to class.

Lost and Found
Our Lost & Found buckets are overflowing! If you're missing something, please be sure to check the buckets outside the Extended Care classroom and out by the lunch tables. It is extremely helpful to remember to label your clothing items, lunchboxes, etc. to ensure a safe return. Blessings!
Yearbook Needs Your Pictures
Have you snapped a great picture this year that you can share? Did you take any pictures at any of our school masses or at summer school? We would love for you to share them with the yearbook editor. The process is simple. Just visit St. Francis' page on the Josten's website to upload pictures. Your creative spirit can be reflected in the pages of the 2011-2012 yearbook! Thank you in advance for your help.
Recycle and Help St. Francis Technology
