St. Francis of Assisi School Newsletter
Home of the Wolves
January 25, 2012
|
Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School families,
Catholic Schools Week at St. Francis unofficially
began last week at the general parent meeting and continued through the weekend as St. Francis families spoke at the parish masses. At the general parent meeting members of the St. Francis staff presented data about several academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs illustrating student learning and personal development. The results affirm that St. Francis is fulfilling its goal to educate the whole person and we're doing it very well! To continue reading Principal Waszak's message, please visit SFAYLBlog.com. |
Catholic Schools Week of Events
|
During Catholic Schools Week there will be several events representing our commitment to faith, academics, and service.
|
Thank You Breakfast for all SFA Volunteers
|
The St. Francis faculty and staff appreciate all that you do and would like to show our gratitude! On February 3rd from 7:00-9:00 am, the St. Francis staff will make and serve breakfast as a thank you to all volunteers for the help that you so generously give.
We will have easy breakfast to go for those parents on their way to work, as well as a sit down breakfast for those that can stay. Please save the date and come and participate in this opportunity during Catholic Schools Week.
|
School Email Switch
|
We are still in the process of switching St. Francis email from the servers on campus to Google servers offsite. Not only will this add more space and reliability for school email, but it creates opportunities for technology integration into the classrooms as well.
There may be a brief period of time where email is delayed this week. Trust that your emails will be delivered, but there may be a slight delay as we transfer mid-week or this weekend. Should you have any questions about our switch, please contact Jackie Gillespie at jgillespie@sfayl.org or by phone: (714) 695-3700 x109.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Computer Lab Open for ALEKS-
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
|
In an effort to support our new, online supplemental math computer program ALEKS in grades 3-8, we will be opening the computer lab on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-3:30 p.m. Students will have supervision, and this will be on a fist come, first serve basis for the first few weeks. If we find demand exceeds seats available, we will establish a sign up list in advance.
If a student attends Day Care, he or she must sign in to Day Care and then let the supervisors know he/she will be working on ALEKS in the computer lab. Students not attending day care should be picked up from the computer lab at 3:30. Day Care students will be walked back to class.

Caught Being Good
|
For the fourth year at St. Francis, we are recognizing good student behavior through the Caught Being Good program. Modeling Christ-like behavior, helping another student, or simply being good gives students the opportunity to receive a Caught Being Good ticket. Teachers and administration may "catch" students being good, and students submit their tickets to be drawn at random and recognized with a prize and their names over the announcements.
Congratulations to last week's winners:

Preschool and Pre-K Registration for 2012/2013
|
St. Francis parents who would like to register their preschool or pre-K students for the 2012/2013 school year are asked to submit a non-binding intent to attend form by Monday, January 30th. We are welcoming new prospective families into the program beginning at Open House on January 29th. For planning purposes, we need to know how many St. Francis siblings will be registering for the pre-kindergarten program. The intent form does not reserve a spot. To secure a spot in any of the pre-kindergarten classes, parents must submit registration materials with the registration fee. Registration materials will be available in the main office beginning on Monday, January 30th.
Please contact us if you have any questions - 714-695-3700, x105.
